Pip, the sweetest muffin
This is going to be a thread just for Pip, updating with pictures and stories whenever they pop up
Taming Pip has been the easiest task ever, despite my initial worries. I wasn't ever successful in taming my gerbils so I was worried that Pip would be a look-don't-touch kind of pet like them. This, thankfully, wasn't the case and I was able to quickly tame him. He enjoys climbing up my shirts and perching on my shoulder quite often (I'll have to get a picture of that soon.)
I originally had my little guy in a 10 gal tank but I recently made him a bin cage and he loves it. I've been steadily making more improvements to it, such as replacing his flying saucer wheel with a wodent wheel, and adding some Kaytee clean and cozy bedding to the wood shavings that I already use. Also, I got him a Kaytee critter bath and some bathing sand and he absolutely loves it!
Pip and I spend a decent amount of time together every day, and he's becoming more and more comfortable with me each time I get him out of the bin for playtime. My little brother has this set of kid's play pots and pans from Ikea and he gave one to me for Pip to play in, and I think it's a winner. I never thought that one little hamster could bring such joy.

Re: Pip, the sweetest muffin
Aww! Lovley reading this! I’m so happy that Pip is really starting to trust you and you are forming a strong bond! Also, I happy to hear that you are adding improvements to his life with the Wodent wheel and bin cage! Such cute photos too!
The Kaytee Critter bath looks to big for a Syrian to bathe in. Do you have any plastic containers (like for storing a sand which in)? You can put the bathing sand in there so he has some more space to dig. You can just leave the Critter Bath in the cage as a hideout.

Re: Pip, the sweetest muffin
Aww Pip looks lovely, beautiful colour.
Good to hear how well he's settled in.
He does look very sweet in the Critter bath, those make lovely little hideouts but it might be worth finding a larger more open dish for him to bath in so he can have a roll around & dig in the sand.

Re: Pip, the sweetest muffin
Thank you all for your kind words! You're going to make Pip blush. Also, thank you Sasha04 and Cypher for your advice, I've taken the sand out of the Critter Bath and I'm currently looking for a replacement sand bath dish.

Re: Pip, the sweetest muffin
A quick Pip-date: haven't had much time with my hammy lately as I've been incredibly busy but I'm doing my best. What a crazy week! I had an escaped gerbil (36 hour manhunt!) and am caring for my sick elderly dog as well. But Pip is doing fantastic. I make sure that he has playtime for at least a little bit every night. It might not be for long, but it's something.
Here's us last night
