Getting a new cage for my hamster
Hey,
I have a hamster for a year now and until now she lived in a small cage (I feel really bad about it) and I read that it can get the hamster to be less active, and I really see it. So tommrow I'm building her a huge cage (more then 450sq), so my question is, will she be more active in the new cage, or that will not change.
Thank you

Re: Getting a new cage for my hamster
Lady I know had a dwarfhamster that needed a bigger cage. She put him in a cage about of about 80 bij 50 cm, his former cage was around 60 by 30 cm.
Jimmy, as he is called, was kind of shocked the first few days. But now he runs arround and seems to really love the space.
I guess every hamster reacts differently, but I think she will need to get used to the space. Just give her plenty of time adjusting and maybe extra tunnels, hidey holes and homes to help her feel more relaxed if she's kinda shy/afraid.

Re: Getting a new cage for my hamster
All hams are different so there's no way of knowing for sure how she will react but they can take a while, even a couple of weeks or so to adjust to a new cage so give her time to settle & get used to things, as long as she has lots to do in the new cage & not too much open space she could take to it well.

I’m really worried, she is acting very weird. She wakes up really late but that’s normal, but she just stand in one place without moving a bit, like a statue and when she slowly walks to the wheel she is running really slow. Also she is not that friendly enymore like she was, when I put ny hand in the cages she is not climbing me, she just snif it and walk away.
Im really worried about her
