I think my Syrian Hamster has wet bottom
So yesterday I let my Syrian Joseph Morgan out to play. I have this big play pen set up with toys and etc. I noticed that he was rather lethargic and was walking funny and had brown stuff on his butt just below the tail and so of course I hop on google and search wet tail symptoms and the things he is doing are some of the symptoms. So I start to panic and tell my mother we need to take him to the vet and she said there is nothing they can do for a hamster. Which I know is a lie. So today I went to a pet store and bought new chew toys and bedding so I can sanitize his cage and I threw everything that I could not wash in the garbage. I also bought this medication that you put in there water that is supposed to help with wet tail. Sorry I’m jumping around a bit but I stayed up all night last night to watch over him and he didn’t run on his wheel at all and I also just noticed he isn’t putting anything in his pouches which is worrisome. I noticed he just grabbed the closest bedding where he was nesting with his paws and I tried to give him some food and he took one of the pieces and put it in his pouch which made me feel a little better but when I tried to give him a second piece he tried to put it in his mouth but dropped it and gave up. I’m just so lost and worried for my boy can someone please help me?

Re: I think my Syrian Hamster has wet bottom
I wouldn't use the medicine in pet shops- they usually mask the symptoms of wet tail instead of actually treating it. I would take Joseph Morgan to the vet as soon as possible as wet tail can be fatal. I don't mean to scare you but it is quite serious. Try to remove fresh vegetables out of his diet as he has diarrhoea. I hope your hammy gets better soon x

Re: I think my Syrian Hamster has wet bottom
Is there anything that you can think of that may have caused these symptoms like a change in diet, different mix or more veg anything like that or any other changes that might have stressed him?
I agree about the meds from the pet shop, if it is wet tail then you need to try get your Mother to agree to take him to the vet, maybe showing her this thread may help, wet tail can be treated but if it is that then you would need to get him seen as soon as possible the longer it's left the less likely it is that treatment will be successful.
I hope you can get some help for him & he recovers soon.
