All About My Maple
Well I have a little surprise to share with you all a new little girl has stolen my heart and has found a home with me! I was going to wait a little longer before sharing but I am totally smitten over her and can't hold in my excitement any longer. My initial plan wasn't to get a new hamster for a little while after the sudden loss of Pumpkin as that really hit me hard due to it being so unexpected however things often don't go plan especially when these little creatures have the ability to steal your heart the moment you lay your eyes on them.
So I would like to introduce you to the gorgeous Maple, she is a mink satin female Syrian hamster who I purchased from p@h today. I can't get over how beautiful she is and her colouring reminded me of light maple syrup so this is how I decided upon her name and it suits her perfectly. Maple does have a little story behind her though - a few weeks ago Maple was in one of the cages on shop floor until she decided that she didn't want to share the cage with her sisters anymore and started picking fights with them - therefore this lead to her being separated and put out back until a cage on the shop floor became available. However whilst being out back she developed an attitude and would charge over if someone placed their hand near the bars or in her cage. Her behaviour reminded me of Pumpkin who behaved similarly whilst in the store and I didn't want her to end up in a home with a child and potentially bite them. So this little beauty found her way into my heart and I had to bring her home. Since bringing her home, Maple sweet side has started to come out being very inquisitive and I haven't seen her behave like I had seen her do in store. Currently Maple is housed in my 130l IKEA Samla bin cage this will be her home until she tamed and then Maple will be when she upgraded into the DIY cage only when I feel it is the right time to do so.
Maple is thoroughly enjoying herself already and has made a right mess of her cage - which I set up so nicely - she has thrown all her toys around! - so this has already earned her the nickname Messy Maple!. The mess was created by her thoroughly investigating every inch of her new cage, including chewing every chew, digging around in her fitch and kicking out almost all the sand from her sand bath however it so lovely to see her happy and enjoying her new cage and her new wheel! It was so cute watching Maple investigating her sand bath - initially she was very cautious of it and would only place a single paw in the sand before deciding she wasn't comfortable with the way the sand felt in between her toes however after gaining a little confidence Maple decided to brave the sand and then decided that she quite enjoyed digging though it plus kicking the sand out! Well a messy cage does equal a very happy hamster!
I am so happy I could give Maple an amazing home where I can spoil her rotten just as she deserves. Albeit she came into my life a little earlier than planned but I am so happy to have a another hamster in my life and I'm very excited to enjoy the time I have with her. As well as admire her beauty every time I lay my eyes on her as I she is just so gorgeous.
So here is Maple - my new sweet troublemaker ...
Also how can anyone resist this beautiful face!!!
This is how her cage looked after I finished setting it up - when it was nice a tidy! Maple is currently sleeping in the corner beside her wheel and has taken some of the shredded tissues to make a cosy nest. However she is a light sleeper so keeps coming out when she hears something with her eyes half shut.
I am looking forward to sharing Maples adventures as well as sharing lots of photos of her.

Re: All About My Maple
Thank you souffle, I am in love with her (and I also love satin hamsters).
Maple has just woken up again and is making an even bigger mess of her cage and is so determined to move her sand bath - which is so sweet and funny to watch as she can’t figure out why it isn’t moving! I must have put in wrong place!
