Re: Tazzie's Thread
Aww, Tazzie is quite the expert climber climbing everywhere and even managing to get around the cardboard deterrents, lol. I hope that the two of you have a marvelous time during her out of cage sessions this weekend and she enjoys the omelette. Great pics; I especially love the last one. Tazzie looks so extra cute and inquisitive peering out from behind her cage bars. She is a real cutie pie and oozes so much charisma.

Re: Tazzie's Thread
Thank you Dreamtree! She loved her omelette - she started nibbling it daintily then halfway through she just stuffed it all in her mouth and chomped it! She has also had tiny bits of broccoli, baby sweetcorn and chicken.
She had half an hour playtime yesterday - it wasn't going to be so long to start off with but she didn't want to go back! She explored every inch of her playpen. I put a smaller version of it up this morning too, and she had a few minutes running round.
She is very brave and likes to come up to the bars for a chat, and has taken food off all of the family. I just need to get her used to being held now, but I don't think it is going to take long.

Re: Tazzie's Thread
Thank you cypher yes it has taken me by surprise how brave she is, she's a cheeky monkey!
Thank you SKB she has literally been over every inch of her cage and has now got it all sorted how she wants it!
Well I was hoping to have more photos of Tazzie but with the hot weather, I have been keeping my bedroom curtains shut to try and keep it cool, they still let some light in so it's plenty to see her by but not enough to take clear photos, I don't want to frighten her with the flash.
She has been awake most mornings, so she has been having a tiny bit of veg for breakfast, and then a few other fresh bits in the evening - she hasn't pouched any fresh stuff yet, she just sits and eats it with a smug look on her face!
She is loving playpen time, even though most of it ends up with her running on the spare wheel. She runs like crazy, then leaps out and flops down for a rest. The wheel is the base of a cupboard - it's hard to describe so I will try and get pics - but it's like a secret den.
She has decided not to sleep in her Rodipet house, but she does seem to pee in there. She has dug out a sizeable cavern under the platform that her wheel stands on, and tunnels out halfway across the cage. So, I am not sure what I am going to do about cleaning out...I have only taken out a bit of peed on Fitch from the Rodipet house so far, while she settles in.
Maybe she will clean her own nest out! Smokey used to do that - about once a week she would shove all her dirty bedding, unwanted food and chewed up stuff out of her nest, and I would take it out and give her a new pile to drag in. She was very houseproud. Marty was a complete slob!

Re: Tazzie's Thread
Ooo SE, your set up of a fun hideaway play area for Tazzie is great. But the photos of your new girl are tremendous. What a beautiful girl she is. No wonder you fell for her!

Great set up for play time!
She really is a beauty, the photos are all great but that second one of her just melted my heart, so adorable

Re: Tazzie's Thread
Thank you Coco and cypher! I have to admit, I thought she was kind of funny looking to start with - she seemed to have much smaller ears and eyes than my previous hams, and her nose looked so big and pink! But I do think she is a pretty girl. She is so lovely and soft too.
She is still pretty obsessed with her wheel at playtime, although she does do a couple of rounds of the rest of her playpen too. I was hoping to expand it for her but I have just been too hot to do anything.
She was in disgrace last night! She woke me up three times, chewing her water bottle - well it's not actually a bottle, it's a water fountain thing like you use for budgies. I found this worked well with Marty, who always got impatient and chewed her bottle. After getting up to distract Tazzie for the third time, I tooke the fountain out and put a bowl in. She tried to barge out of the cage for a bit of playtime! If she was a bit better about being held, I wouldn't have minded a quick game on my bed, but she is still not 100% ok with being picked up, and she does tend to jump like a flea when I am holding her!
She was very busy tunnelling this morning - I do feel stupidly proud of her for being so hamster-y! She still seems to be peeing in her Rodipet house (I'm so glad I paid all that money for it - !!!) but as I can't easily get at her nest, I think there must be a poo mountain in there somewhere - I have only found half a dozen so far!

Re: Tazzie's Thread
Tazzie now weighs 170g exactly! She sat very still on the scales last night, eating a pumpkin seed - when I tried to weigh her a couple of days ago, she didn't sit still at all.
She has also learned Mountain Climbing - with me being the mountain. I sit cross-legged in the playpen for most of her out of cage time, although I feel I am getting too old for this! She climbs onto my lap, up round ,y hip, then up my back - sometimes she gets up on my shoulder and I hold up my hands so she can climb into them, otherwise she just goes back down the way she came. It tickles like crazy and I have to clench my teeth.
I gave her a tiny bit of banana last night - she was not interested. My other hams and all the rabbits loved banana! Maybe she just needs to get used to it.
