Re: Wallace's Thread
Lol, it sounds like you have your very own hairdresser-ham to give your hair a nice trimming. Wallace sure is funny.

Re: Wallace's Thread
So glad you have the gorgeous Wallace as your new ham friend He is adorable and sounds a great character. How did the name Wallace come about? (I am thinking William Wallace and imagining your Wallace screeching "FREEDOM!"

Re: Wallace's Thread
Serendipity - EnerHam posted on the previous thread I'm adopting a new friend tomorrow!: "His name is now Wallace. Someone I live with saw him, thought of Wallace and Gromit for some reason and... yeah. I think it suits him.". I was thinking of both the heroic William Wallace and the silly Wallace and Gromit when I heard of Enerham's hamster's name. Actually, Enerham named Wallace after Nick Park's British clay animated series Wallace and Gromit. It is a comedy where one of the main characters is Wallace, an inventor and lover of cheese. Gromit is Wallace's loyal dog. It is a funny series and movies. I'm sure you and your stepson will probably love it, too.

Re: Wallace's Thread
The person who named him is obsessed with Wallace and Gromit. Though William Wallace would be an interesting name to base his off of too!
Quick question: I've never seen Wallace pouch anything. Has anyone else never seen their hamsters use their cheek pouches? He seems to prefer walking around with food in his mouth.

Re: Wallace's Thread
Eros loves using her cheek pouches as her mini-refrigerator to carry her yummies with her, lol. Sometimes she carries her treat in her mouth and walks around with it dangling out a bit, though. Wallace is the first ham that I know of that never uses his pouches so maybe he prefers to reserve using them for times when no one else is looking, lol. . . or maybe he is just daring to be different. He is a very unique and special ham after all.

Re: Wallace's Thread
So lovely to hear that Wallace let you handle him - also lovely photos of him cleaning himself afterwards. He didn't look best pleased with you spying on him whilst he was washing. It also sounded like he had fun climbing onto your shoulders and investigating your hair with his teeth.
I rarely see Pumpkin using her pouches she prefers to carry her food around in her mouth but occasionally she deicide to use them. I have noticed that some individuals it does take them a while to discover their pouches.

Re: Wallace's Thread
Charlie didn't pouch food for a while when I got him - I think it takes them time to get the hang of it when they're young.

Re: Wallace's Thread
Thanks all. Perhaps he just hasn't found them yet! He's nearly 18 weeks old now if the age given to me by P&H was right, but he does seem rather small for that age. I think he's the smallest properly developed Syrian I've owned. Maybe he's got a little growing and a lot of learning left to do!
Wallace likes to climb me. In the cage he doesn't seem all that bothered with climbing, but out of it he makes his way to my shoulder quickly. He's still fascinated with my hair and I have no way of keeping it out of his reach. My hair is around 80cm long and thick. He climbed into my ponytail last night when one of the songs in Eurovision made him jump. That was a fun...
