Aww, he certainly is a thorough little fellow with his bathing and stretching, lol. He is just too cute!!! I'm glad that he enjoyed Spinach, too. Maybe he is like Popeye and realizes that it makes you strong and healthy. I can just imagine silly little Wallace saying, "I'm strong to the finish, 'cause I eats me Spinach, I'm Wallace the EnerHam ham! (screech, screech)". I just love this little one so much and he makes me giggle.

Its so lovely to see Wallace has his very own thread - I am so looking forward to hearing about all his adventures. I love his name - I think his name suits him perfectly and I also really like Wallace and Gromit.

Beautiful photos of your handsome boy - his ears are a lovely contrast to his light fur.

I think some people just assume when they get a hamster they can handle them straight away and don't realise they need to tame them - my Pumpkin was returned after a few days after she bit her previous owner but she was very timid and trembled when she was in my hand with patience she blossomed into a amazing sweet cuddly girl. So I hoping with your patience and taming tailored to him that he will also blossom into a sweet boy very soon. It so sweet hearing how he couldn't resist the yummy veg despite being scared and screechy - as well as discovering that he loves spinach that should help with bonding.

Lovely that Wallace like to keep himself well groomed and enjoy a sand bath too. That must be so cute seeing him stretching so much (I found it adorably cute watching Iodine the same thing!)

You're definitely making progress, Wallace not screeching at you tells you he's starting to trust you. Master Harvey loves cleaning himself too and always does so in his ceramic flowerpot.

The stretching thing is pretty amusing! And yeah, he's definitely getting tamer. Tonight he made no attempts to nibble my fingers along with the food, was happy for me to hold the food as he ate and allowed his body to brush up against my hand as he walked past.

I'm noticing a pattern. During or after the taming session, he goes into his wicker tunnel, cleans himself for fifteen to twenty minutes and then has a sand bath. He's done that exact routine since taming started.

Pumpkin's story must mirror a lot of other adoptee's stories, SKB. I was warned by the guy who got Wallace out of the display cage in Pet's At Home that he was nibbly because his previous owner hadn't interacted with him. I suppose, like many issues with hamster care, it comes down to a lack of research or being misinformed. That cute, cuddly hamster in the shop might not be so inclined to be cute and cuddly for a while once you bring it home. Patience and a good taming regimen are the keys to changing that.

Aw, Harvey must look adorable having a wash in a flowerpot, Thin Lizzy! I've been considering getting Wallace one.

Wallace let me handle him! He wasn't overly enthused about it, but he did voluntarily get on and off my hands a few times.

....and as soon as I was done with him, he cleaned himself for 25 minutes!

Thanks everyone! Yeah, it's really nice to be able to hold him. Only downside is I've discovered his penchant for climbing onto my shoulders and chewing my hair. Oh, Wallace...
