I adopted another.. Meet Shadow Bear
Recently i'd been checking the pets at home adoption for pets page to see if they had any dwarf hamsters up for adoption near me as i wanted a new dwarf however on thursday on my way home from college i checked it and saw a black with white belly Syrian hamster. I completely fell in love and so got my parents permission to adopt her.
We went and picked her up yesterday - i was so happy that she hadn't been adopted already. The lovely woman at the store told me she's been in the store since December however she was being treated - she has a bald patch on her nose and the store didn't know why so she was treated for mites, ringworm, fungus etc. before being cleared - their vets think its where she bar bit as a baby and completely rubbed her nose fur off. They said they're not sure if it will ever grow back and that she's around 3 months old currently. The store woman genuinely seemed happy to see that she was being adopted. The store woman woke up the lil hamster and out she padded, curious. She looked like a little black bear and my dad even said so hence her name "Bear".
Here's her pictures from the actual petsathome adoption website - i didnt want to disturb her yesterday taking pics
You can see her nose patch on this one - i thought it was a white patch of fur when i first saw this pic
And her gorgeous dark coat
She's absolutely tiny compared to Kiara but is confident enough to be out and about while i'm in the room and she seems to be enjoying her large amount of bedding - she has a tunnel hole already.

That's a cute hamster! The first picture sure does remind one of a curious baby black bear!

Aww she is adorable Sometimes if they bar chew too much it does damage the hair roots so it does not regrow in that area. I'm sure she will settle well and enjoy life with you. You may want to consider a bin or tank cage if she is a know bar chewer. I'd say she is more than 3 months if she has been in the adoption section since December. You are likely looking at 4-5 months really.

Re: I adopted another.. Meet Shadow Bear
Thanks everyone for your replies, i'm glad you all think little Bear is as adorable as i think she is! Honestly the hardest thing when getting a new ham is waiting for a few days to interact with them although i know it is necessary as they're settling in.

I knew they could hurt their nose, damage their teeth ect but i wasn't aware they could damage it so severely that the hair never grows back She is in a bin cage already although she can currently reach the mesh - i'm looking into getting a better one though, a taller one. i have an ikea samla i'm just not sure if the drawers her cage is currently on is wide enough to support it, i might have to play around with some of the furniture in my room and set it up. So far she hasn't touched the bars, she's been too busy playing with all her new toys and tunneling, will certainly be keeping an eye out for any bar chewing though. Also thank you for clearing up her age for me too also is there a mesh small enough that a hamster isn't physically able to bar chew on?

Re: I adopted another.. Meet Shadow Bear
You can get quite small hole types of weld mesh in DIY stores. You juts need to be careful when cutting it and that you smooth and seal the edges so that they can't scratch anyone. Google weld mesh and you should find something. If she isn't bothering the bars just now then that is good.
