Question about hamsters
Hey i'm new here so i don't really know how this works lol, but i had a question, i heard that syrian hamsters are hypoallergenic but i'm not quite sure about that. The problem is i want to buy one soon but i'm scared because we previously owned two dwarf hamsters (not sure of the species) and my sister started showing an allergic reaction after three weeks. So i don't want to buy a syrian to then realize that my sister is allergic and then end up giving it away.

Re: Question about hamsters
If your sister was allergic to one species then it would be quite likely that she would react to a Syrian hamster as well. It may well be the fine fur in the hamster coats but it could also be the substrate. To me it doesn't seem worth the risk that the hamster would have to be rehomed just as it has settled.
Do you know anyone with a Syrian that may need a petsitter for a few weeks while on holiday? This might be a way to do a trial run but you would need to ensure care should your sister be reactive.
Perhaps another pet like fish or giant land snails might be better for her? Hamsters are definitely not hypoallergenic!

Well we had rabbits before and she did not have any allergic reaction to it so i don't think that was it but thank you very much for the advice i might foster a hamster from a local shelter or something
