Re: Meet Matilda
Matilda looks really sweet in the photos, good to hear things are progressing well with her too.
She is quite small but they do vary quite a lot & she may gain more weight now.

Re: Meet Matilda
Things are going really well with Matilda. As I said before, she has obviously been socialized, and is starting to get more comfortable with me. She lets me hold her and pick her up, and she's very curious about me, especially if I happen to have flax seeds.
Here's a cute picture of her with her cheeks stuffed with Mazuri blocks.

Re: Meet Matilda
I'm terribly sorry that you had some serious health issues and then had to overcome all that happened to your beloved pets during that time. I know that must have been an extremely painful and emotional time for you.
I am so relieved that you are doing much better health-wise now and you have been able to fill your hammy-sized hole in your heart with such an amazing new ham. Matilda sounds absolutely wonderful and she is very lucky to have found you. I'm thrilled that she is settling in well in her new, loving home with you. I love her coloring; I also do believe that she is a chocolate banded, but I'm not 100% positive. I'm sure someone with much more expertise in that area will be around soon to tell you for sure. I love her adorable pics especially the one with her filling her cute cheek pouches. It looks like you have already decorated her cage with a nice Valentine's Day theme, too; I love heart-shaped bowl!

Re: Meet Matilda
I finally got a table in my pet room, and was able to move poor Matilda's cage up off the floor. She can see around now! It might be a coincidence, but it seems to have clicked something in her. She is so curious now, so much bolder. I open the door to her cage, and she comes right to me, and wants out to look around. She's not wild about being pet, but she's very content to be in my hand and walk around. She comes out whenever she hears me come into the room, even when it's the middle of the day. And yes, she does have a bit of a Valentine theme going; I like it so much, I might just keep it that way for awhile, though! She still seems so small for her supposed age, which makes me wonder if she isn't younger than they said at the shelter (of course the shelter only knows what the previous owner reported). Anyway, I am just loving her and could spend all day watching her run around, though I don't think she'd be too excited about that. She might be getting braver, but the girl still likes her privacy.

Re: Meet Matilda
How wonderful that she is gaining even more confidence now that you have placed her cage on the table. Since hams are prey animals, they tend to feel much safer and content being elevated off the floor so they won't feel that something is looming over them like a predator. I know that you must be thrilled to be able to interact with and see her more often.
I totally understand keeping your lovely Valentine's Day cage theme passed the actual special day. After all, it is a "loving" theme which is quite appropriate for your loving ham no matter what time of the year.
