Default Dwarf Hamster Eyes

So I have a year old dwarf hamster(russian) and I have noticed when I turn on the lights in the evening to go into her room her eyes turn red yet when I see her eyes during the day or once her eyes have gotten used to the light they are black. Is this just because her eyes are shocked from the bright lights?
Thanks!

It sounds as though your ham just has very dark red eyes, they can often appear black in normal light but are in fact red.
