Re: Meet Gus
Hi. Welcome to HC. Would love to know a bit more about Gus - he's very cute.
Just a little side note - is that his cage now? If so I'd remove the fluffy stuff in the pod. It can be harmful to their health, even if it is a "natural cotton" one. It can cause blockages or impact in their cheek pouches do not good. Gus looks like he's fine of his tipi though

Re: Meet Gus
I love black hamsters! He's very cute. Hope to see more of him around.
I agree with Velma about the fluffy stuff. Also, I'd remove that edible house. They contain ingredients which can cause health problems.

Re: Meet Gus
He really does love that little house he has, but I'll take it out if it's going to be harmful to him. Also, he doesn't even seem to care about his fluff bedding so I know he won't miss that if I remove it. Would bedding like hays be ok to use?

Re: Meet Gus
Hay can be a bit sharp for hams. I know some people use a small amount for a treat but you need to check each piece as if they pouch it, it can injure heir cheek pouch. For nesting material (which I think is what you're referring to) I think you can't beat cheap white unscented toilet paper. A few sheets roughly ripped up they can shred the red themselves if they want. It's safe if they pouch it or digest it. For bedding material that goes on the bottom of the cage, wood shavings are fine (depending on where you live as to what type) or paper based bedding like carefresh.

Re: Meet Gus
Yeah right now for bedding I'm using the natural paper stuff, I've heard the shavings types could be a bit sharp and cause splinters so I'm avoiding that. Oh yeah I've got another thing to ask: He doesn't seem to gnaw/chew very much. I've bought him little sticks but I don't really see him using them, or chewing on anything in his tank for that matter. The only thing he does chew on is my dress when I'm holding him out of his cage in my lap lol. Is it normal that he's not chewing on much?
