New Syrian Hamster
Hi Guys!
After my previous thread about my tragic time with Mickey's death, I have decided to accept my friends offer for a Syrian hamster which he bred. Its 9 months old and a cute looking fella. Brown head and a body with long mixed hair. He looks like a guinea pig! I named him Weasley after Ron Weasley from Harry Potter.
I love him to bits and pieces, and I hope he's adjusting well. Any Syrian experts with tips and tricks on how i can get this cutie to adjust well in his new cage?

He is REALLY cute. Wish I could cuddle him. Just what you needed and I'm sure you're just what he needs too

Re: New Syrian Hamster
Well now he has cute really nailed...!
The best thing to do with him in his new cage is let him get on with it, just observe for a week or two, then you can think of making any changes you think necessary.
Pip loves to explore and I move a few things about for her even now, if she doesn't like something she will not play with it/use it.
So I am a strong believer of letting them choose their own thing unless it seems dangerous then a little intervention is required.

Re: New Syrian Hamster
He is lovely. I agree with the others. Leave him to settle in for a few days. He will slowly get used to the sounds and smells around him and will scent mark his cage. It is important not to clean him out too much so as not to disrupt his scent.
Erinsanimals does a great youtube vid on hamster cage cleaning.
Best of luck with him. Hope he helps to ease your heartache.

Re: New Syrian Hamster
Hi guys!! Thanks for the well wishes!! Weasley is currently doing very well, making his own little nest inside the savic spelos XL entry cage. It's adorable how he always comes out when I'm coming back home and his little hands reach out to me hoping that i would pull him out of the cage for a a quick run
I have a few questions!!
Weasley doesn't use his wheel, I think I know why. It looks small for him and when I put him on the wheel he just comes back down. I'm not sure where and what kind of wheel I should give to him, gonna attach a picture for you guys to help me out from what I measured, the wheel is about 14cm in diameter. I'm not even sure if I can get a bigger wheel that fits in the prefixed shape of this cage. Anyone with savic cages know anything about this?
Last night Weasley started biting the top grills in his cage. If you guys know how he cage looks like I got it because most of the cage is just acrylic without grills, just the top part where I can open it to refill his food and water. I thought he needed something to chew on, so I attached a stick I bought from the pet shop and attached to to the grill to let him gnaw his teeth into it. Is this right?
Thanks for the help so far <3 really appreciate it
