Re: Meet Ghost-The Ghost Files
Ruth
The treat tin is from TK Max, they have loads of nice things there. Ghost is exactly as you describe wake up wash and groom for a half hour, maybe eat a little fresh nibbles and then wheel time for a good few hours..
TL
I was thinking of our Hall, as with the doors shut it is Hammy proof unless he can climb stairs, and then I can try that method you describe.
The Pic is from 5 am this morning when Ghost was still up and scooting about his cage...

Re: Meet Ghost-The Ghost Files
You can block of the stairs and start small. I had a lot of fun doing that with Twinkle and I did it with Master Harvey also even though he wasn't like Twinkle. Once he realised the size he was off exploring. The hall is the only room that I can make secure and escape proof.
Gorgeous pic of Ghost, just look at those ears and nose so cute!

Re: Meet Ghost-The Ghost Files
Dear Ghost,
Thank You so much for your participation in The Electric Hammy Orchestra, your Musical Bar playing was outstanding.
I especially loved it when you and Newt teamed up as a duo on the Saturday night and entertained us with your Coconut Bongos, Sir Mocho Rattle was in bed at the time but he was so impressed. I also enjoyed it when all the hams started foot tapping and clapping to yours & Newt's booming tune.
I'm so looking forward to keeping in touch with face time on the hamnet. We all bonded and like mom says 'We Are The Champihams'
Lots of Love Master Harvey xx

Re: Meet Ghost-The Ghost Files
Lovely picture of Ghost - I can't get over how adorable big his ears are!
The hall sounds like a great idea. I use our hall for Quigley's free roaming. Quigley loves climbing the stairs, but I just pick him up and bring him back downstairs once he reaches the top step. If Ghost isn't confident with being picked up yet, I think that you will want to block off the stairs so that he can't climb up them just yet. You can un block them once he is more settled and I'm sure he will love climbing them - it's Quigley's favourite thing to do!

Re: Meet Ghost-The Ghost Files
Awww sorry to hear the taming isn't going as well as you'd like Rads. I too think a playpen or letting him run around on you in the hall would be a nice idea to help him get used to you. Whatever you decide to do I think consistency (as much as possible) is the most important thing. It can get a bit disheartening when they don't seem to want anything much to do with you. He does sound like he has his own mind though and will be quick enough to tell you if he is unhappy with something
He's a real livewire though and I'm positive he will settle soon

Re: Meet Ghost-The Ghost Files
Three times tonight I roused Ghost from his lazybones nest, three times he went back to it, the first time with a pouch full of lettuce, the second time with a large chunk of broccoli.
The third time even though I had removed his house he belligerently started burrowing..!
Finally coaxed him out into his ball, which he seems to like exploring and such, the good thing is I can hold onto the ball so gets properly used to my smell..!
A few pics from tonight follow. Sorry but still only phone quality..
Ghost pouching Lettuce at Ghost speed too.....
A couple of Ghost in his ball, which he can climb out of such is the strength he has hauling himself up and out using his front paws/legs only.....

Re: Meet Ghost-The Ghost Files
Well then tonight's taming/getting to know you session seemed to go rather well to the extent that the little bugger actually poo'd on my arm as he ran up and down my arm and then scaled the chest wall of Mr R to run across his shoulders...!
I found that using his ball for transportation and the sofa as a critical taming zone he climbed over my hands to get where he wanted to get and used that to work more on his taming.
First Video shows some taming work..
https://youtu.be/kuuZBWQKp8o
Video Two shows interesting behaviour in his ball, which was Poo Flicking as he was grooming himself......So for all amateur animal psychologists.....Views?

What a little sweetheart. How has he been with handling? He's looking quite handsome in that pic of him in the ball

Re: Meet Ghost-The Ghost Files
I did laugh at him flicking his poo.

Re: Meet Ghost-The Ghost Files
Sounds like Ghost is coming along nicely with the taming, at least he didn't flick his poo outside the ball
