Thanks Serendipity, great ideas! I do know that he likes sitting in mugs from when we had a heatwave and I gave him one cooled from the fridge. I wonder if he could work out a tissue box lol.

Cypher knew this but I think it is that the brown ones are the natural ones. Golden are either a different plant origin (from the USA) or have had some change. Can't recall so it made me get the pure brown bag rather than a bag of mixed seeds.

It seems like the brown might be better in terms of higher levels of fatty acids, but I don't think they're exactly GMO if sourced properly.Either variety could be GMO if not specifically labelled non-GMO though,so all I'd do is just be sure the individual flax seed brands used are at least non-GMO(organic in the UK would be ideal as it is actually meaningful in the UK,while in the US just non-GMO is normally fine since organic in the US isn't too meaningful and can still be unhealthy or even unsafe).

Yes, very interesting! Thanks Amity. I use the brown linseeds from Tesco. I don’t think they are GMO. Then again, I suppose any number of foods could be GMO without us knowing.

Mites are a nightmare but you've done everything you can with cleaning and taking Quigley to the vet.
I remember Archie having a bad bout of them and he was given 3 injections over the space of a month at the vet. One of the reasons I don't have all wood in cages is because I ended up throwing out a lot of wooden stuff/toys when Archie had mites.
That's good to know that brown linseeds are better. Will be getting Harvey a bag next time I'm in the supermarket.
Quigley will get over the big clean, he'll no doubt be feeling a bit better with the injection and knows his mum has done all this for it to happen.

Thanks ThinLizzy. I hope he knows it was all for the best! 3 injections in a month doesn’t sound fun - poor Archie. Fingers crossed Quigley won’t need another one.

The brown flax seeds are slightly better than the golden but there isn't that much in it, as far as I know no flax has been genetically modified here yet (still possible they snuck that in somewhere though I guess!) the main difference tbh is for the farmer as the golden produces a higher yield.

Cypher that's intereresting about the golden producing a larger yield. And it's good to know we don't have any GMO flax here yet. To be honest, I don't think there's much GMO stuff in the UK compared to the US. And, I might be wrong, but I thought there is a rule that in the UK GMO goods have to clearly marked as such.
