What a handsome boy you have now AP. Congratulations! Lovely cage and set up and I am sure you will get it adjusted for him soon enough.
If you want to think ahead about a show, there is one at Bracknell in September.
Hi AP well done you, what a gorgeous little dude Quigley is and you know it's right.
Pip says hi waves a paw too.

Serendipity I'm really sorry, I forgot to measure the cage height while Quigley was out and now he is back in, I don't want to stick a measuring tape in there and clear an area of substrate for the purpose. I can, however, confirm that the cage bars are about 9mm - 1cm apart. I can try measuring the height tomorrow if you'd like? My answer will probably be the same as BorisPasha's, though. Sounds as though Quigley is still charting slightly behind Newt on growth, but it will be interesting to see how big he ultimately ends up. I got the playpen because I saw it mentioned here and I reckon it was probably in Newt's thread, so I gave you to thank. It worked great this evening.
Crystalroborovski glad you can see it. I did write a lot so it was easy to miss!
Coco Thank you made a few adjustments while he was out this evening. Having seen how he uses the cage and what his set up and what his climbing capabilities are like, it's easier to tweak it to suit him. Bracknell is actually only about 40 minutes from me by car... So that would be a possibility. September is just before I go to uni in October though, so I might be busy. Will have to see.
Quigley is being very brave. He allowed me to stroke him while he ate the seed bar, but jumps every time he is picked up (don't worry, my hands have been carefully no more than a centimetre from the floor).
Got some photos of him grooming. As you can see in the first one... His masculinity is not in question! Palmer-Stephenson told me that the more testosterone a long haired hamster has, the longer its fur. My the size if his ham-melons, I'd say he has a lot of testosterone! But, fortunately he's just fluffy, rather than truly long haired.
It's been fun watching him this evening pottering about his cage. He seems very confident in there and even took some sunflower seeds through the bars from me. Not sure if this will last, but he keeps very reasonable hours! Up by 7pm, and only goes back to bed at about 7:30am.
Sorry for all the pictures - though you are just lucky there's not more I could photograph him for hours.
Please don't apologize for the pics- the more the merrier!
The last photo of him peering from his cage is so cute. There's certainly no doubt about his masculinity lol, lucky for you! I once had a ham who though he was male, it was almost impossible to tell even when looking closely. It's good to hear he allows you to stroke him, worry not about the jumping, he'll grow more confident as time goes on. Loving all the pics of him, keep them coming
Just too cute. Great photos but the last one is adorable. No wonder you fell in love with him.
The real London show is on the 9th September this year. Last year there were hamsters fancy mice and dominated by piggies!
Hmmm, if you are an hour from Tuftyfluffs and 40 mins from Bracknell AP, then you can't be far from me!
Congratulations. Quigley is adorable. His cage looks good. You will probably add new things and adjust the layout (in time) to give him different/new things to do or give him easier access to certain areas.
Videos and photos and lovely. I'm already to follow his thread.
Ah you got a furry friend!! I LOVE Guigley! He's so cute! Ah this is great news so happy for you and I love the cage setup. I couldn't get on to HC yesterday for some reason. He's a beautiful boy. I'm a sucker for a golden he has a lovely face and I love his dark cheek flashes.
Congratulations AprilPearl on Quigley - I'm so happy and pleased when I saw this thread, that you found the right hamster for you and he is so lucky to have you as his owner! Quigley is incredibly handsome and I can completely understand why you couldn't say no to his face! (I felt that way when I found Pumpkin).
It was so lovely seeing all the cute photos and videos of him! I especially really like the photos you recently posted of him eating his food and peering at you through the bars.
Also I really like his new cage and I'm sure he will enjoy all the space he has available to him.
Love his name too!
I'm so looking forward to seeing lots more photos and videos of Quigley!
