Ooh yours is 48cm? I wonder if April's is the same. I guess so - unless one has a more dipped roof than the other. It's about the same height as the Alexander then I think. According to an Alexander owner I asked, actual internal height is 46 to 47cm on the Alexander (I think the quoted height of 50cm includes the handles).

Maybe Flower Fairy can confirm that - she's just bought an Alexander.

Sorry April - the excitement of Quigley and the cage set up all at once is too much for me lol. He is absolutely adorable - especially eating that broccoli - so sweet Just take it slowly with him at first maybe so as not to scare him. It does look like he is happy to sit. I think most of them don't like being picked up out of their cage.

flowerfairy he isn't really that tame, actually (not that that's a problem, I like a challenge!). He was very laid back at his breeder's house, and in the travel case coming home. But, now he's quite jittery. That's to be expected, after all the change he's been through lately, though! I don't blame the poor little guy.

Serendipity glad the gnawing isn't anything to fret about. It didn't make him popular with me at one in the morning, though! Still the cutest room mate ever, though. I actually got the Arizona skyline indoor playpen (or whatever it's called) which arrived this morning, so I may try him with that this evening. He doesn't like being picked up, even when out, so I think it will be good to let him run around me at his own pace. I think Newt also has the same playpen? Thank you for the advice regarding his cage. Wouldn't want him to do himself any damage. I haven't measured the internal height, but I can do if I remember tonight. I suspect it is the same as BorisPasa's Plaza. I'll try to measure the gaps between the bars, too. If I remember correctly though, they are meant to be 0.9cm apart.

Thanks Cypher when I was setting it up, I didn't really know how big he was going to be so I probably put the platforms a little low. But, now that I do, I can adjust accordingly.

Drago thank you can't wait to see him grow myself, either. Judging from Newt, they grow very quickly at this age.

Talking of growth, Serendipity, how much did Newt weigh at 6 weeks? I am wondering if Quigley could be bigger!

I don't know if the forum still is having problems, but for some reason I can't load the first page of this thread. I had read it in the morning while having breakfast, and I can't remember all that you said, but I just wanted to tell you that Quigley is gorgeous and congratulations for getting him! He looks real cute in his videos, and I hope he settles soon. Their hanging toys look AWESOME. I really like them. You also did a pretty good job with the platforms. The cage looks nice, I think it is the most elegant wired cage that I've seen

Oh AP, Quigley is so so cute

I'm so glad you were able to find a hamster to give a wonderful home.

Was he named Quigley after Quigley Quagmire from The Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket?

Best wishes with taming!

OOOOOO cage envy. I love the look of it.

Serendipity the internal measurement of the alexander is 46cm. Robin was so pleased to hear me rattling about as I measured it that he got up.

How can I possibly convince myself that I need another cage?!

Palmer-Stephenson is lovely and a well known name amongst exhibitors as her hamsters often do well.

I'm sure Tuftyfluff understood when you said that you'd found the right hamster for you and you had the decency to let her know. I'm sure that the other pups will find themselves some lovely homes too so try not to feel too guilty about turning down the others.

When I've bought breeder hamsters home, I've usually handled them as I've got them out of their carriers and I know it's common to let pet shop hamsters settle but for a hamster that has been handled regularly to be left without handling for a few days may make it harder for them to adjust. Both James and Victoria were a little bit skittish when I first brought them home but they responded well to gentle handling. I think that the skittishness could be down to the change in environment but also being separated from his siblings (Matthew went through a skittish spell despite having always lived here). He'll get used to it soon though so I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point.

Hopefully we'll see you and Quigley at a show some time.

hamsterita that’s odd, I can see the first page. Can you see it now? Maybe it came back. I like the cage too and not only because of its size. As you say, it has quite an attractive design. The only annoying thing is that the door is a bit stiff. Still, at least that makes it escape proof!

BethandLil thank you. I’ve always had a soft spot for goldens so I’m glad to finally have one.

Crystalroborovski I first heard the name in “A Series of Unfortunate Events”, yes. I was re reading the series recently and thought it would make a cute name for a hamster! I think I said that in my first post - can you see my first post? Hamsterita says the first page of this thread is not visible.

flowerfairy thank you. If you ever are looking for another cage, I do recommend it. As I said, the only real minus is that the door is a bit stiff, but that means I don’t have to secure it with bulldog clips or anything. I really like all the platforms in the Alexander, but I went for the Plaza because it had a big door and I figured I could put wooden platforms in.

fluffagrams she was lovely - very kind and helpful. I hope you are right about the TuftyFluff pups. I wanted one of them too and even started thinking I could put one in the Alaska. My mum was not to be convinced, however I am handling Quigley little and often as Palmer-Stephenson directed, so hopefully he settles down. But, as she said, it could take weeks. And that is fine. Everything at his pace on his terms. I would like to go to a show! Probably won’t be at Andover this weekend, as things are a bit busy with my brother coming home from uni and I now have Quigley. Definitely will have to experience a show in the future though! Not that I have any plans to show Quigley, but I did ask Palmer-Stephenson if he was "showable". She said it was too early to tell: he might do well, he might not. What do you think?

It is such a great name. I am sure the Tuftyfluffs breeder doesn't think badly of you. You showed an interest, and something else came along. That's what happens. Yes that is the playpen I have for Newt. Some other people on here have it and I thought it looked good - I find it great as it's hard to hamsterproof the room Newt is in. I think he would disappear under the spare bed which is virtually impossible to move there is so much stuff in that room! Stored underneath the bed mainly.

Newt weighed 105g at 6 weeks, weighed at Souffle's just before I picked him up. It's always interesting wondering how big they will be finally I guess they can grow at different rates though and have spurts.

Thank you for all the dimensions - noted! Poor Robin! But thank you Robin.
