Re: Quigley
What a naughty little hammie! He could have been bar chewing as a way to gain attention. You could think about increasing the time his wheel is available for playtime. Then watch to make sure he always breaks off every now and then to rest.
Mocho never liked those beans but still loves a strip of runner bean. I read somewhere this is safer when cooked so I changed from giving it to him raw like his other veggies. Perhaps Quigley would like that!

Re: Quigley
Oh no, Quigley! You have been quite the mischievous hammy haven't you - crawling on top of the tall bendy bridges and such? I can just imagine your Mum's shocked expression while she spied on you through the video feed. Such a naughty, adventurous sweetheart! I can tell you keep your Mum on her toes. LOL at the video shots and the expression on Quigley's face especially on the first pic. He looks as though he is looking straight at you and saying "Look here Mum! I guess you didn't know I could do that, huh? Watch this death-defying stunt, aren't you proud?" I am so glad that he was fine this morning, and all of his stunt props were taken out until you have a chance to rethink their layout in the cage. It is so CRAZY what hammies are up to while the lights are supposedly turned off. What a sneaky guy you have there, AprilPearl. I would totally love to have the capability to see what Eros does while the lights are out, too. I can just imagine the adventures that she must go on during her night escapades. BTW, those pics are AMAZING!
Too bad that Quigley wasn't too keen on the green beans. TBH, I don't blame him for not liking them much. I don't care for them either unless they are cooked in a casserole, smothered with cream of mushroom soup, and topped with crispy French's fried onions and curry powder. However, this wouldn't be good for poor Quigley to eat them cooked this way, so sadly he has to give it another chance eating it the purely healthy way.
BTW, I mentioned my looking at Quigley's precious pics again as a compliment to both you and your adorable hammy since he is SO cute. I just wanted you to know that I absolutely LOVE him and enjoy seeing that darling face. I hope that you didn't feel that I was implying that you weren't updating your thread enough. I totally understand that it is often impossible to take pics of our precious hammies while playing with them, and I am so thrilled that you have your hands filled with hamster. I couldn't be any happier for you so enjoy Quigley to the fullest. LOL, I often don't post pics of Eros for even longer periods of time so this is definitely quite a short period in comparison.
****
Psst, Quigley! This is your friend, Eros! I just wanted to formally invite and recruit you to be a spy. We can most definitely use your expertise in sneakiness and agility around all obstacles your Mum may use to "try" to hinder your previous actions. If you are interested, please report to HQ tonight so you can be briefed on your first mission. Stay safe, and avoid the video recording as often as possible so your Mum can't spy on you, too. We never want to be caught on surveillance. BTW, I am coming over for a short visit soon to relieve you of all of your undesired sweet peppers and mealworms, so no more worries about future incidences of your Mum trying to persuade you into eating what you don't want. However, I'm afraid that you may have to deal with those yucky green beans at a later date because I don't have a taste for them either. Luckily for me, my Mum doesn't care for them either so she doesn't insist that I retry them. Us hammies have to stick together, you know?

Re: Quigley
What a naughty boy! He's too adorable to stay mad at though Sorry to hear about your first camera, but it's good you got a refund. I'm always so jealous of people who have hams that will eat out of their cages. I want cute pics of Duncan or Kopi eating, but both refuse to take food outside of their cages lol. Quigley is getting so big

Re: Quigley
Oh what a naughty boy!
Cute picture of him eating the green bean. Key Lime has never turned his nose up at a veggie but his brother isn't a fan of broccoli (kind of surprising to me- I know some hams love it).
I need to stay up-to-date with this thread more often, little Quiggy's adventures are something I just can't miss out on!

Re: Quigley
Lol! What a little daredevil! The things they do.
Master Harvey loves green beans.
Quigley does look so cute in your hands with the green bean.

Re: Quigley
Quidgley, you go for it, do all the naughty things you can because they are fun, Pip....
AP,
Sorry Pip got to the keyboard before me, love the pic of him and the green bean, he is quite a size or you have tiny hands?
He is coming on quite beautifully and his coat is getting spectacular..!
Must dash as Pip is pulling one of her bendy bridges off the side of her cage the little monkey....

Re: Quigley
Coco he's been getting his wheel for longer in the playpen and I am pleased with how he uses it. He does get off and on again, so hopefully he won't run non stop when he finally gets it in his cage.
dreamtree thank you for the wonderful comment! Don't worry, I didn't think you were criticising me. You're always way too nice for that Quigley says he enjoyed meeting Eros at HQ last night - but unfortunately Mum tried giving him another disgusting mealworm this morning! You had better come and remove it tonight! Plus, rotten mum has confiscated his climbing wall, so how will he practise scaling tall buildings now? Mums never understand!
Drago I always try to make sure they eat fresh food outside, because I worry about it getting stuck in pouches or going rotten in their store. I'm sure Quigley would love it if I left it in his cage for him, but I guess he knows he will only get it if he eats it outside!
Crystalroborovski Never met a ham who dislikes broccoli! But, I guess it happens. I probably update too often to be honest. Feel free to drop in whenever you like
ThinLizzy ah, I am sure Quigley wouldn't mind Harvey coming over to take away all the green beans in the house!
Rads haha tell Pip that Quigley quite agrees with her! I think Quigley is big, rather than my hands being small. He is only 7 weeks old but already 113g today. Plus, his fluff does make him look bigger than he actually is.

Re: Quigley
Quigley is 7 weeks old today. I weighed him and he is 113g, so has gained 8g since last week. Serendipity kindly gave me Newt's weight records, and it seems that Newt was the same weight at 7 weeks. It will be interesting to see if they end up the same size.
His fur has also had a growth spurt. When I got Quigley only a week and a half ago, he was a little fuzzy but that was all. Now, however, he has sprouted the feathery beginnings of a tiny skirt! I tried to take some pictures this morning to show you.
Quigley was NOT happy at being made to sit facing away from me for this picture (I wanted to get a better view of his fluffy bum!). You see, his little game is climbing up my arm out of the taming box. When I picked him up off my arm and turned him round, I think he wondered where my arm had suddenly disappeared off to. It took him only a few seconds to turn his little furry butt around and start ascending my arm again.
Here he is eating (well, mostly pouching!) his breakfast. I usually hand feed him his mix piece by piece because he seems to prefer that. Usually, he will pouch every piece I hand him. But, when presented with the bowl, he will leave his least favourite pieces - which I then hand feed him at a later time I love that he will accept his regular mix as a treat. I think I fed my other hamsters too many treats, so they would no longer take their mix when fed by hand. I want to encourage Quigley's current mindset and I plan on feeding him virtually no shop bought treats (except his seed bar occasionally, and his whimzee if he ever takes to it) to keep him as healthy as possible.
I watched Quigley on the night vision camera last night and he has begun bar chewing again. I guess it must have been my defences which stopped him temporarily, but I am not leaving them there for him to climb on and potentially fall off. Think I will need to put some cardboard around the bars...
Speaking of climbing - apparently, I can't stop him doing it completely!

Re: Quigley
Oh naught Quigley I think it will stop when he has his wheel in his cage Newtie was the same, climbing like that. I had the hemp mats round the bars where you had the bendy bridges and he pulled them off every night and would squeeze behind them as well. They are very active at night and with no wheel they just go a bit crazy to climb and try and get out I think. It's just a temporary thing. I don't think it was a fall risk really, looking at those photos, because he couldn't fall onto anything hard The round thing might have fallen onto him I suppose if he jumped off it. But I bet he had great fun sitting on top of the bendy bridges. I think they go to the top and corners to try and find a way out!
His skirt is beautiful! He is growing up so gorgeously Could you give me details of your night vision camera? I know Coco has something as well - I get a bit mind boggled when looking up these things and don't know what's what.
I bet you can't wait till he has his wheel in the cage!

I don't think it was a fall risk really, looking at those photos, unless he could fall onto anything hard They have been known to monkey bar across the roof, so the key is to make sure anything hard can't be fallen onto (eg under a shelf or having a smaller shelf over it eg. Is it a cork log on the left side? The only thing I could see maybe is the wood ladder on the right, although that's not too far a fall, but it is hard. I used to hang a rat sputnik over the ramp to prevent that.
The round thing he sat on might have fallen onto him I suppose if he jumped off it. But I bet he had great fun sitting on top of the bendy bridges. I think they go to the top and corners to try and find a way out!
If there's nothing hard to land on then substrate cushions any falls and it isn't a huge height when there's substrate (I think it's 30cm that's supposed to be the max they could fall from unless there's a soft landing).
