I'm so excited! He's going mad in his temporary cage, which was his home before I got him

Yay. Try distracting him with hidden food. You could let him play in the dry bath with the plug in and a towel in the bottom.

Put his wheel, a few cardboard boxes, toilet rolls in for him to run about in and climb on. A deep box with substrate in for digging is nice.

He gets that for an hour daily, plus a bit of handling, he loves to be with me, meets me at the cage door whenever I walk into my room, he's the tamest hamster I've ever seen, third day I had him he was Happily walking onto my hand, up my arm and sitting on my shoulder
