Good to hear her breathing is sounding better now, she is good taking her medicine but I'm sure the treats & cuddles are making it more than worth it

Yes, Baytril must be really gross because they seem to be able to detect it in mostly anything! I'm glad Anya is being understanding about it and seems to be improving. Hopefully the vet will give you the all clear at her checkup.

Just been reading through Anya thread and I'm sorry she has been unwell, I'm wishing her a quick recovery. Its lovely that she been enjoying snuggling with you.
Baytril is a difficult medicine to give hamsters as they dislike the taste - I also found it easier to give it syringe from the syringe with a reward afterwards.
Its good to hear that her breathing is getting better.

Well, tonight I thought Anya sounded worse, and she might even have coughed or sneezed. I got this thing called a Critter Cuddler, which is this fleece ring you put around your neck, and it has two layers both with elastic on tem. It creates almost a tube around you, and you can tuck your critter into it and they can rest comfortably, chill out, etc. It's hard to explain, but it's nice and soft and helps me not to drop squirmy rodents. Anyway, I have been using it with Anya, and tonight she was either very happy to rest in it near my heart and cuddle up or she is feeling worse and didn't have the energy to try to go back to her cage. I'd like to believe she's just starting to like me. She hung out in there happily with a treat, while I did my hamster room chores, and was perfectly content for a long time. Beatrix likes it too, but she likes to crawl around and around and around. It's so cute. I really hope Anya does start to feel better. Her breathing seemed so much better yesterday, but back to the clicking today.

The vet said to just keep giving her the Baytril and we'll check to see how she's doing next week at her appointment. Her breathing sounds a bit worse, but her behavior hasn't changed, and she's gained 2 grams--up to 90 now--so that must be a good sign, that she is continuing to grow. She is about 2-3 months, and Beatrix is at least 6 or 7 months, so it makes sense that Beatrix is larger, but Beatrix is SO MUCH bigger, it's kind of astounding. Anya is quite the cuddler and I love getting to hold her and snuggle her so much, and she seems to enjoy it as well.

One weird thing--the last two days, she has tipped over her water bottle (she also has a bowl), and drug the entire thing out of the ceramic base and into her nest, as if she is bringing a beverage to bed with her. I might need to switch to a different water bottle if this persists. I can't decide if this is a bad sign because she doesn't want to leave her bed to drink or if she's just smart and lazy! I don't think it's the former, because she's still just as active and runs on her wheel, etc. Oh, hamsters. I wish they could speak!

Sorry that the breathing doesn't sound better but, I think you should just keep going and see what the vet says at her appointment. It's good news that she is still growing. You're right that she is small, but there is a huge range in which a hamster's weight can fall and still be healthy. For example, most of Souffle's last litter are already larger than Mushu, despite being only half his age!

That's so funny about the water bottle. She probably thought it was a toy! If she doesn't tend to use it, then you can probably take it out and just leave in the water bowl, though.

Sorry to hear there's been no improvement in Anya's breathing, sometimes it takes a while for the meds to really kick in & get to work so fingers crossed it just needs more time.
No idea what she's up to with that water bottle but it sounds as though she might just have been having some fun digging around! A different bottle & maybe a different spot in the cage if you can might stop her doing it again.

Sorry to hear that her breathing doesn't sound much better but it's good that she's still acting her usual self. As Cypher and AP have said it can take a while for the meds to really kick in. Sounds like she has decided to be a bit mischievous with her water bottle!
