Re: First Syrian!
He's in his new cage with all of his old bedding and toys and is loving it, the first place he went was to his food bowl!

Re: First Syrian!
Ah I can't see the pictures unfortunately (I am assuming you posted images and not blank posts!). But, I am glad to hear he is settling into the new cage!

Re: First Syrian!
Aw yay. Syrians are wonderful. You're going to have such a lovely time with him.
The only advice I have is that if you're planning on getting a flying saucer wheel (my Syrian prefers that to the stand up wheel. Though that might just be her and not a Syrian thing) I've seen a lot of people use the 6.5 inch one which is too small. They need the largest one.
Other than that, I'd say just lots of love and toys.
Wishing you and your new baby the best.

Re: First Syrian!
I don't think that Flying saucers are a substitute for an upright wheel. They just don't compare, other than being called a wheel. They don't allow a natural running position, they cause side arching, and no matter what size you get you'll never have the same amount of running space as you would with an upright wheel of the same size(which also happens to take up less floor space, meaning you can have more valuable enrichment). For example,a 12 inch upright wheel would have 6 inches of running space which is appropriate for Syrians however a flying saucer of the same size gives 3-4 inches in most cases that isn't even ran on straight

I'm still trying to work out how to post pictures from an iPad!
His new wheel arrived as well(thank you Amazon prime!) and he loves it!
You could fit 3 of his old cage into his new one!

Re: First Syrian!
He is sleeping in the open in his sand bath though?
I've put some nesting material beside it and he seems to be keeping his hoard in the sand bath, he's much more active than I expected a Syrian to be!

Lol hamsters do odd things sometimes! I wouldn't worry too much over it, as long as he seems comfortable, then I'd leave him to his own devices. Of course, I'd try to create a very encouraging nesting area for him so he has somewhere a little less harsh to lie on. Making a huge pile of toilet tissue underneath an inviting hideout can sometimes help

Re: First Syrian!
As Drago says, hamsters do silly things! My Mushu still uses his wheel as a toilet on occasion! Maybe he just likes the location of the sand bath for his bed. You could try moving the sand bath elsewhere and putting some bedding where it used to be.

Re: First Syrian!
Congratulations on your first syrian hamster.
I can't see your pics.
