Newt waves a paw to his lookalike Yes Newt must have snaffled the Wellybix straight away as it disappeared.

Whenever stepson is here Newt wants to come out a lot. Maybe he picks up the fun vibes or maybe he just likes playing Fortnite and watching Alvin and the Chipmunks. Anyway he gets faster and more active and cheekier by the day. Almost hurls himself off the sofa and has no sense of fear! So I have to help him down to make sure he doesn't just drop. He had a good run around the living room, under the kitchen door within seconds - so had to go and find him. Blocked off the kitchen door with OH's dressing gown and Newt had a little tantrum on the dressing gown but finally settled down to watching the TV - he sat for ages at Stepson's feet watching the Fortnite (game) on the TV.

Oh precious! :3 Who knew that video games could halt tantrums in hams as well as children? I'll have to get Pokemon Go up to my room and try that one with my lot lol

I gave Newt another Wellybix as the first one had disappeared. He got extremely excited and grabbed it and ran for his house entrance - except he couldn't get through the door with the wellybix in his mouth! He eventually worked out he could turn his head sideways to get it through the door. So I guess that's where the last one went - into a place of prime position in the hoard. They do seem to love anything beefy! None of this veggy flavoured rubbish lol. Although he eats those too but doesn't get so excited about it. Come to think of it he eats absolutely everything.

I must apologise for my belated birthday wishes to Newt, can't believe he's 2 already, Great pics and that cake looks so tasty. Hey that's so adorable that he comes out more when your stepson is visiting. You must try and get a pic of Newt and his wellybix, I couldn't stop smiling at that.

Thank you TL! Newt's first night with Nugget in the same room was interesting. He looked very wary and suspicious and could clearly smell another hamster in the room. He gave me a slightly "what have you done" look. He seems fine now though. Poor Newt hasn't had much out of cage time the last couple of weeks. The living room has been upside down (moved out of) with major decorating and repair work going on. More or less back to normal now but need to do some serious and major hoovering in all nooks and crannies before he can go back in there again and run around.

A couple of nights when he wanted to come out I took him up to our bedroom. He was not impressed and just wanted to jump off the bed. And now he has to share his room with another hamster and put up with extra stuff piled up in there! He is ok though and has had extra treats to make up for it. Gave him some of Nugget's baby food one night which he lapped up.

Happy belated 2nd birthday Newt - sorry it late. I hope you had a great special day. His cake looks yummy! I can’t believe that he two already! He still looks ever so handsome. I really like seeing the photos of him having and an adventure and his new cage layout looks good an more accessible for him.

Thank you SKB.

Oh dear - Newt has had some kerfuffle. I had to clean out his labyrinth house - it was chock a block with food, hoards and substrate and he could hardly move so had pee'd in his nest.

That was a kerfuffle yesterday and I had to leave him out of the cage as he was getting a bit worried about me spot cleaning in his house while he was there. Took quite a while - the house needed wiping and drying and I had to prune his hoards a lot. But took care to save most of his nest and put new food back in the same (3!) places plus some tasty treats in there. Immediately he saw me moving things, he grabbed his most precious thing and ran off with it (the Wellbix dog biscuit!) So didn't want him to see me doing any more.

So all done and fine and he seems happy. And then tonight his Barney shelf collapsed! Spontaneously. Lucky he wasn't near it and it didn't fall far as the cork log underneath propped it up. But the noise brought him out and he got quite bothered and went under the shelf and showed me how awkward it was and how he couldn't get round the corner with it that low.

So I said - I didn't do it! Sorry I'll sort it out. But the blooming shelf wouldn't go bakc so I had to take the heavier ceramic things off it to try and get it back in the bar slots. And had to give up at this too because as soon as Newt saw me take the ceramic house off (it was full of an extra special hoard! Half walnuts, whole chews etc - clearly his extra special things) - he went up on the shelf and started trying to pouch that hoard.

Didn't want to upset him so put the house back and will have to look at the shelf when he's out of the cage next. It is still a bit low but stable on top of the cork log.

Anyway it seems the bars are a bit pushed apart and the shelf now won't sit in place at both ends. Can only assume that me leanign on it while doing things through the top door, has pushed the side bars out. Tried pushing them in at the sides but made no difference!

He needs a couple of days to settle after the house changes etc so will just leave it as it is for now - there's still enough space under it.

So Newt & Nugget are now neighbours lol! For some reason I thought they lived in the same room. I always remember bringing Twinkle home and Archie started competing with her. When she got on her saucer, he would come out, jump on his wheel and go like the clappers, it so made me laugh. But, I always made sure Archie was fed before Twinkle, the same went for time out of their cages. He soon got used to her.
I'm sure Newt will adjust to his house changes.

Thank you TL. Yes he has adjusted fine - even to the slightly lopsided Barney shelf - not quite sure how to sort that just now. Maybe Newt is competing a bit! I noticed he comes out as soon as he hears any cage noise at feeding time now, so maybe he's aware someone else is being fed too!

Funny video of Newt attacking a chew he found inside his coconut. He'd just been running all over the living room for half an hour and being cheeky (trying to sneak through a gap in the door to the kitchen which he achieved at one point and then sat there looking at me as if to say - ha ha - got you there. He doesn't seem to realise he is over 2 years old now! He's been very active with the lighter nights and warmer weather the last few days.

So put him on top of his cage while I opened the cage door and he found the Wellybix chew. Made me laugh because he was inside the coconut trying to get out with the chew in his mouth and it kept barring him as it wouldn't go through the door sideways. He managed to squeeze part of his head and the chew out and I had to give him a hand.

At that point decided to video him as he was destroying the chew so grabbed my phone - hence the video is a weird shape! Phone shaped.

So here he is decimating the chew and then pouched the whole thing. After he went back in his house, Nugget came out and gnawed his log loudly (competition?!)
