Re: Newt's thread
Busy beaver Newt has been digging and mountain building. This time it is a huge pile of Fitch linking the front door of his house to the entrance of the large cork tunnel which is filled in at the entrance now. Clearly his new underground septic tank! Easier to spot clean anyway. He is very creative and clever getting things just how they suit him as he now has something to dig in/under. Clever boy. Still not sure where he got all that Fitch from! Although there does seem to be a bigger gap under the wheel now. I am planning to add a second potty - one for nuts one for peeing in. He did used to pee in his potty - until he wanted a special place to put nuts.

Re: Newt's thread
Trust Newt to go to where all the dirty boots are Doesn't sound like something the Black Magic ham would do lol.
Love the picture of his butt, diving down the couch. He looks very well considering he's very nearly two, I still keep thinking he's a baby!
Looks like you've made some nice quality of life changes for him which I'm sure he'll appreciate in his twilight years

Re: Newt's thread
So Serendipity, Newt is showing you that he can organise his retirement bungalow himself, thank you very much. His antics do make me chuckle as he is very busy and inventive.

Re: Newt's thread
Thank you BP and Coco Yes I think Newt thinks he's still a baby too But I also can't believe he is nearly 2.
Yes he is showing he is capable of sorting it himself ha ha. At ground level anyway. It is better without high things to fall of though - I was getting quite worried about that.

Re: Newt's thread
A bit of spot cleaning pee tonight and it's sorted. The mountain at the front was pee'd on substrate he had pushed out of the cage - clever boy. He had pee'd in his potty as well which was why it smelled inside the house - so a lovely mud pie of pee, bits of sand and cashew nuts. And no substrate left in that room. So replaced it with some from the play cage (smells of him and cleaned the potty and added new nuts next to the potty - the idea being to encourage him to hoard them in the masses of space in that room, in the substrate, but Newt pouched the nuts and buried them under his nest instead . Anyway all easily sorted without too much disturbance.

Re: Newt's thread
Newt will be 2 in about 3.5 weeks - if you saw him tonight you wouldn't believe he was nearly 2. He hasn't been out for about a week and tonight he wanted to come out. And was extremely active. He is very confident running round the living room now and the one dodgy area is blocked off. He tries to sneak through the door to the kitchen and speeds up and nips in before I can get him - he knows there are food crumbs in there. So have had to shut the door to the kitchen to prevent that as too many things he can get stuck behind. I let him have a bit of time in there and stay close to him to stop him if he looks like heading under the cupboards (kitchen cupboards with no pelmet things so open underneath) - then take him back to the living room.
He was incredibly active tonight, full of energy. And that was before he realised things had changed in the living room so that may have made him even more active. We replaced the sofa and chair at the week-end and the replacement ones are in a slightly different layout - and smell different. And I had to mvoe a piece of furniture which partly blocked his route near the stairs. On top of that I think he could smell Nugget who had been out at the week-end.
Anyway he had a good explore. But the sofa is slightly higher than the old one and no throw on it for him to climb down. Did that stop him? No! He still tried to climb down head first - had to hold him partly on his way down or he'd have just dropped.
His fur and coat seem very good for his age and I'm putting that down to Linseeds partly and maybe genetic too.

Re: Newt's thread
Newt is getting very cheeky and bold in his old age! He was out again tonight. Firstly he tried to take food out of my mouth! Silly me chewing on the remains of a wrap while he was out. I thought he was being affectionate climbing up under my chin but when he got a bit close to my mouth I realised what he was up to!
Then he did a runner. I closed the door to the kitchen. Seems there is a gap underneath and it he went straight under the door. I opened it straight away and he was nowhere to be seen. Usually he goes straight round the corner and under the table. So reckoned he'd gone through the other door - two other rooms, including the downstairs bedroom where his cage is, and both have so much stuff in it could have taken a week to find him! Also a toilet/cloakroom but he wasn't in there. So had to get stepson to help me find him. Calling his name (pretty pointless). I thought I would be up all night! But suddenly saw him. in the room where his cage is. Thankfully he hadn't gone under the bed or wardrobe or into a pile of junk etc. He was sitting snugly between a pair of roller skates and a bag of toys. Just sitting there looking at me and looking a bit naughty. So picked him up and popped him back in his cage. So need to close ALL the doors next time.

Re: Newt's thread
Ha ha! That hadn't occurred to me Wouldn't surprise me if he did - but then he does like smelly footwear.

Re: Newt's thread
Good grief Serendipity. I would have had heart failure. Cheeky boy peeking out at you but at least that made him visible so you could scoop him up..
