Re: Newt's thread
Glad Newtie is still happily using his nest room. What is it with your boys that they won't use the front door with bridge but prefer to tunnel under and out! Mocho was far too laid back to bother with that but then I rested each house he had on the base of the cage as being too heavy to risk a collapse on him. The cold shoulder won't last bless him but Newtie knows how to get the message across!

Re: Newt's thread
Thank you Coco. Yes I'm glad he's still using it too Mocho was a lovely gentle little boy with sensible habits. Yes I think raising the house has encouraged the tunneling instead of using the door! He uses the door as well. Maybe he just wanted to make a door in a different place ha ha.

Haha Newt, what a character you are
He is being young and adventurous, exploring all possible routes and entrances and exits
I hope he'll stop giving you the cold shoulder soon.

Re: Newt's thread
Thank you Boris Pasha I did leave him alone for a few days after changing the house but maybe he needed a bit longer to adjust to the change.

Re: Newt's thread
He was born to tunnel, and to have 2 entries to his labyrinth. He's so adorable.

Re: Newt's thread
I think you're right TL. So the little digger is making mountains. There is now a Fitch mountain on top of his house (the top entrance must be getting draughty!). And a mountain next to the wheel where he made his second entrance. The wheel was jammed again tonight so I had to move some of his mountain. He heard me spinning the wheel and came out to investigate and looked a bit miffed that I had moved his mountain a bit. So he started digging and kicking it all back into place with his back legs! Hmm. It's a new daily game un-jamming the wheel.

I popped him in the playpen for a bit (he's been off the playpen recently) while I unjammed the wheel again while he wasn't looking.
I know what you're doing in my cage! I can hear it!

Oh well might as well just have a nibble. He likes to have a little nibble of everything.

Re: Newt's thread
Looks like Newtie is really enjoying all the new burrowing opportunities you've given him with the new house Messing with fitch mountains tends to meet with great disapproval here too lol!
Really cute photos of him in the playpen

Re: Newt's thread
Master Harvey sometimes has a pile of carefresh on top of his house, for a while with his digging, his wheel was constantly getting jammed and I'd un-jam it. There was a few times where he would hear me and come out and help with the un-jamming which I found rather funny. Newt looks so cute in those pics, such an innocent face lol!

Re: Newt's thread
Thank you Cypher and TL. Yes he is clearly enjoying being busy and getting things how he wants. The new house is just a little bit wider than the old one. I had to measure up to see if the wheel would fit between the house and the shelf, which it does, with just a couple of mm clear each side! But with Newtie's tunnel/mountain it gets jammed at one side. I am not sure if he would make the link between the wheel not turning and the Fitch mountain, but maybe if I keep showing him he will get it! And move it a bit himself. I suspect his hoard is buried under that mountain.
Unfortunately I am going to have to poke about a bit as gave him a bit of chicken when out of the cage. He had a good nibble and then blooming pouched the last bit. So I have to find it now before it goes off. It's the second time he's done that so may need to avoid giving him fresh meat for a while.
