Thank you Boris Pasha and TL. Newt has settled nicely into his new labyrinth house and seems to like it. He casually saunters in and out of the front door and pops out of the top entrance to get his veg. I had a little peek inside and saw he was nesting in the same section that Charlie chose (at right angles from the entrance door, so it's dark) - although that might be because I put his nest there I got the version with the teracotta dish on top this time. Not that I needed the dish, but as there is a big hole under it, you can just lift the dish up to peek inside or empty the potty rather than take the whole roof off.

Previously he blocked his front entrance up at night but now he has a dark area he doesn't seem to bother to do that.

It was a bit of an extravagance but it worked well for me before and helps keep things organised lol. It will be interesting to see what he does with it when it gets cooler.

Good to hear Newt is settling in to his labyrinth house. I think the teracotta dishes are great, Boris had one with his labyrinth house, not that he's using the house anymore but he's still using the dish

How nice he's sleeping in the same spot as Charlie did, Newt obviously appreciates that Charlie knew a thing or two about staying cozy

That's so damn adorable Newt sleeping in the same part of the labyrinth as Charlie.

Yes I think it's my year's teacher training coming out - I train hamsters to sleep where I want them to lol.

Newtie must love the new house set up if he is not blocking up his nest room door. Must feel nice and safe. So sweet he is in the same room room that Charlie chose.

Thank you Coco. It is nice. I think that house is designed so one room is darker than the others and that's probably attractive to them.

Oh dear, I am getting the cold shoulder. Newtie likes the house but seems a bit unsettled by the change. I took the roof off to lift him out the night before last, and last night couldn't find him - I then noticed a pile of Fitch next to his house. He is tunneling again under the house. Unfortunately the pile of Fitch jammed up his wheel! So had to move it slightly. When he appeared later I got the cold shoulder! I'm beginning to wish I'd left the old house in! I'm sure a routine will settle in.

Newt giving you the cold shoulder won't last long. Maybe he thought he could tunnel into one of the rooms in the labyrinth?

I think he was tunneling out! He was a bit surprised (or miffed) by me taking the roof off the other night.

I had a tiny peek under the dish on top of his house tonight, without taking the roof off and he was there in his nest so he hasn't abandoned it Clearly he does like tunneling in and out of the house though. Shame it keeps jamming his wheel! Still I'm sure he can unjam it again with a bit more digging. I shall keep an eye on it. Might have to replace the potty though as that's ceramic and it could sink onto him if he tunnels under that.
