At least you've found the potty now - and very cute that he still went underground to use it. Hopefully he will also like the new potty arrangement!
Linseeds really do wonders so I'm sure his coat is looking lovely.

Sounds like you & Newt have been busy!
Hope the potty works better where it is now.
Good to hear he's fluffed up again now & his coat is looking good again

It sounds like Newt has been keeping you very busy with his black walnuts and disappearing toilets

Great to have an update on Newt and his goings on. That was quite some work creating his basement bathroom facilities! Good thinking Newt, perfect for the private ham. Wonder what he will makes of things now. Good to know his coat is in good shape again, he is such a handsome man.

Ha ha - thanks all. Haven't seen any black walnuts recently - I reckon he's now sensibly hoarding walnuts under his nest where they don't get pee'd on and go black.

Interestingly there is another huge pile of substrate next to his house again (from where his toilet excavations had been cleaned/substrate replaced). As the potty was in the compartment next to this on top of the new substrate it seems it may have been buried again or he couldn't get past it to dig a tunnel!

Serves me right for putting his house on little legs a while back. Anyway it seems to be keeping him happy and he is a very busy digger.

So funny that Newt had you guessing where his toilets have been. He's such a clever boy. I hope this potty works. So lovely to hear his coat is soft and fluffy again.

Newtie gets more and more lovable and interesting. He is very active these days, wanting to be out most nights and getting very adventurous. He has learned how to climb down the front of the sofa - upside down. So now he knows he can do it he wants to keep doing it. The sofa isn't big enough any more. So the last couple of nights he's been pootling around on the living room floor with me on my knees keeping an eye on him and blocking areas off I don't want him to go. He just seems very interested in exploring and sniffing everything.

I think he is in foraging mode actually, since it turned colder recently - although his room isn't that cold and warm in the evenings.

Last night he had a fine old rummage around on the sofa - which is never tidy - and found a nice burrow between a heaped up dressing gown and a heaped up blanket. He also tried pouching a paper hat (we had Halloween crackers with hats in - I forgot about them at Halloween so we had them the other night). So I had to take that off him. Gave him a big mound of paper nesting material when I put him back in his cage and he sat pouching that.

Another Fitch mountain has also appeared at the front of the cage opposite his house door so maybe that's to block draughts.

Oh and the potty, in it's new location, has been sunk again - but is visible. I think he burrows under it till it sinks - not quite sure where he is peeing!

When I found him tonight - waiting on his shelf as usual for his nut - he gave himself a bit of a surprise when he went for a drink, pulled a bit hard and the water bottle came out of the holder and landed on the shelf (only an inch or two down) - he seemed to be trying to push it back up again and busied with it a bit - but I put it back for him.

Oh yes and I gave him this last week

It's quite big and I thought it would keep him going for a while chewing at it. Planted it in his cage next to the shelf one night - next morning it was bare! He then climbed all over it and kept looking at me as if to say "that was nice - stick some more stuff on it". So I've been putting the odd pumpkin seed on the edges of the pine cone and it's good exercise for him climbing up to get at them.

Wow, I'm having so much fun catching up on your precious Newtie's thread! He sure has been keeping you on your toes trying to find his missing potty, lol. I'm glad that you finally found it and hope this new arrangement works well for both of you. I also absolutely love his gorgeous and adorable pics enjoying munching on his apple and playing with the X-fighter toy. He looks so happy in them and is so handsome, too. I'm sorry that he has been having some issues with balding spots in his coat, but I'm relieved that it has all grown back to normal and his coat has filled out again. Linseeds seems to have done wonders. I had to laugh at Newt tricking you multiple times to place another hanging treat that he stashed away. He sure is sneaky and quite the cunning, little ham, lol. I love it!!!! He is such a darling and full of so much entertaining personality.

Thank you Sasha and Dreamtree I don't think he ate all the stuff from the pine cone tree but certainly got it all off and hoarded it! I call him my little hoover - he literally seems to hoover anything edible in seconds. He did look funny trying to pouch an orange paper hat as it was sticking out of his mouth and I had quite a friendly tussle to get him to let go of it.
