Re: Newt's thread
Maybe he was trying to tell you that he doesn't want to share the food

Re: Newt's thread
A bit of both maybe I think he smelled food on my hands - not like me to forget washing them after handling food but routine is different feeding two at the same time!
I'm trying to decide which would be the least disruption - taking the legs off his house and lowering it (at the moment he is underneath it and the wheel is blocked all the time with his pushed out Fitch). Or replacing the shelf with a shorter one and moving the wheel. I'm tempted to do the first. It seems a shame but he was quite happy in a house before and is getting a bit untame being buried all the time.

Re: Newt's thread
I'm sorry that Newtie napped you. He probably just smelled the scent of Nugget's food on your hand. He also probably is a bit jealous that he now has to share your attention with his new hambrother. I agree with you that the first option is probably the least disruptive. He will probably be his tame self again soon once he settles in to all the new changes.

Re: Newt's thread
Willow has nippedin the playpen some times. I think it’s her way of letting me know she has had enough time in there and is wanting to go back to her tank. Maybe Newt is thinking/doing the same.

Re: Newt's thread
That could be it too CMB - he doesn't spend too long in the playpen these days and had also pouched something. Usually he climbs up my arm to come out when I put my hand in. This time he had a little taste of my hand! Clearly in pouching mode!

Re: Newt's thread
Newtie's cage was ready for spot cleaning so I sorted the house and it's much better now. It's the same height as the old house now and just on a thin layer of Fitch so it's like a tunnel system anyway - a subterranean house. Newtie has been getting so frazzled about his wheel and his Fitch pile that I think the change has to be better than him getting frazzled. I rescued his nest and put it in the house. He still has his old bit of J cloth from his baby nest
Silly hamster had got himself in a pickle under the house anyway as clearly his nest kept collapsing. So while I've been doing that he's been in the pet carrier in the lounge. He went to sleep - he was all curled up in a ball. Then woke up and dig some digging. Then went back to sleep again. He's still in there! Won't come out - he looks much more relaxed and all cosy. So maybe he just needed a bit of a cage sort out and change of scene.
Are you coming out Newtie?

Re: Newt's thread
Newtie is just as precious as can be. I love all of his pics in the carrier. It definitely made me giggle at him having a nice, big yawn. I just love that you captured that picture.
