Re: Newt's thread
I love the weighing idea (p16) wish the guinea pigs would sit still long enough to read the scales. Not weighed any of my hamsters.
Sounds like Newt is having a great life with plenty of fitch to burrow in and a play pen to explore, even his own dinosaur!
What wheel is that in his play pen?

Re: Newt's thread
I think Newt will keep growing for a while yet. I’ve heard they stop at 6 months old. At 18 weeks old, Mushu is still growing so Newt definitely has many more weeks of growth to go!

Re: Newt's thread
Isn't Newt a little treasure! He's so handsome already, and so funny shuffling around under his Sputnik!
I really do like that playpen - not sure what my monster would think of it sizewise, she doesn't think a play area approx. 12 x 3 feet is big enough...it looks lovely and sturdy though.

Re: Newt's thread
The wheel is the clear plastic Karlie wonderland wheel. I got it from Amazon.de last year as I couldn't find an 11" wheel that would fit in the holiday cage. It is slightly lower than the Trixie wheel. I like it (and so did Charlie and Newt does) but I wouldn't recommend it. It's hard to get hold of - and so expensive. And although it's ok at the moment, I had ordered two of the smaller version when I very nearly got a robo a few months ago! The wheels both arrived unattached from the stand - they are just glued on - and I think there is a risk the wheel could come unstuck from the stand. So it's only for minor use in the playpen where I can keep an eye on it. I got my money back for the two smaller ones though.
Yes that Skyline playpen is great! Much more escapeproof than my correx and bulldog clips one (that got binned when we moved after getting a bit manky).
Tonight is the night I try and get him out earlier - between 8 and 9pm. Last night I managed it by 10.30pm by tempting him into a tube with some cheese in, but he is difficult to find lol. He tunnels down in the Fitch inside his house.
When out earlier last night he was quite sleepy and just sat and washed. When I put him back about an hour later, he woke up and wanted to be active and come out! Sorry Newt I can't stay up till 1am! So I'm going to try and get him in the habit of coming out earlier.

Re: Newt's thread
Tonight I woke Newtie around 10pm and tempted him into a tube again with a bit of food, then carried him into the big wide world - ie the living room, the sofa, the man and the TV and he rummaged around on the sofa behind the cushions, sat for a wash and was much easier to handle than in the playpen. It isn't that easy getting him out as I think he sleeps on the bottom of the cage under the Fitch in his house So I have to move a little bit of it then his nose pops out.
After his sofa adventure he went in the playpen for a bit and pushed his sputnik top around again, quite energetically - he almost flipped it over.

Re: Newt's thread
Ah! The big wide world for Newtie. Sofa time is a new world to explore. Sadly Mocho liked to explore behind cushions. The only thing he then did was to try and dig himself behind the seat cushions or stay put behind a loose cushion. Not very imaginative!

Re: Newt's thread
As long as he was cosy Yes Newtie tried to dig behind the sofa cushions. Luckily I have a big throw over the whole sofa (it's a bit worse for wear under the throw!) so he couldn't actually get anywhere. He also tried to climb up the arm and make a run for it but luckily a handy newspaper slowed him down there and he slithered up and down it. I had a big furry hat blocking the only gap where there wasn't blanket and he hopped in there for a bit.

Re: Newt's thread
Sounds as though the big wide world was a lovely adventure for little Newtie & must have been really nice for you to be able to handle him more easily too, I can just picture him in the big furry hat lol!

Re: Newt's thread
Mushu loves digging on the sofa (I put two large towels over it though, which I don’t mind if he shreds!). It’s something about corners... Mushu is fascinated by all corners and determined to get through them somehow!
