I'd expect him to be at least 175g. His dad is 215 though mum is a little smaller for a female but is 180g now. Posy goes to her new home tomorrow and is 158g at 8 weeks. Fergus is 146g and Walnut is 134g and they are all growing on nicely.

So he still has plenty of growing to do then It would be nice if he's as big as his Dad but any size is fine by me

Thank you GSH - yes he's lovely I should say handsome - he may feel offended at being called lovely lol. He's a red eyed cream and one of Souffle's last litter - have a look at the Halluperts thread

Hehe I was right!! When I looked at him I was thinking I think he could be RE cream because of his ear colouring and was wondering would he carry cinnamon and did have a look there at the halluperts thread to see because I couldn't remember and dad is cinnamon and mum RE cream satin! Go me lol. Glad they all got good homes. Lovely litter.

Newtie showed his ingenuity last night and demonstrated the techniques hamsters use to scale solid sided cages and escape. He didn't escape because I was there. I was sitting in the playpen with him, so I was a good climbing frame! I only fit in sitting at a diagonal, corner to corner, so my feet were in one corner. Newtie gripped the sole of my shoe with his front paws/claws and used his back legs to push off the playpen side and shimmied up to the top of my shoe and his little head popped over the top of my shoe He could have actually gone from there over the top of the playpen - so I gave him a lift down again

He had a blueberry last night which he took into the ceramic house on the shelf - he likes sitting in there. He is visibly larger now with scent glands showing and looks like an adult hamster now except for his face which still has a baby look Well he still is a baby really - or a toddler. He also tackled a monkey nut in his sputnik but gave up on it so I started it off for him and the nuts were gone this morning.

Here he is in his sputnik

Hamsters are little escape artists! He must have thought you made a neat ladder and were helpfully sitting there so he could climb out.

I see what you mean about the ears - he is going to be a very big boy once he grows into them! He does still look very small, despite how much he's grown though.

So Newt likes blueberry, huh? Haven't tried Mushu on that yet. He is the same with monkey nuts: why open them yourself, when you can get a human to do it for you with less effort?

I read a thread on this forum which estimated that every 10 days = 1 years for a hamster. If Newt is 8 weeks old, then he is 5.6 years old

I used to guesstimate - I thought 1 hammy year was equivalent to 40 human years, but your calculation sounds more exact My way makes him 6 lol.

Newt is certainly learning fast, what an active little monkey! Did love the vid of him in his Sputnik. He enjoys your set up around the cage.
