Glad to hear she's enjoying the sandbath, it can be hit and miss with Syrians in my experience. Looking forward to seeing her new cage

Just been catching up with Beatrix's thread, good to hear she's settling in and her pics are so cute. You can see her character shinning through.

Ah I am glad she is loving the new wheel. Lovely photos too! Don't feel bad about having to upgrade her cage - it's just great that you are doing so and many people move their hams into larger cages. Have you got one in mind? Broccoli seems to be a hit with most hamsters

I'm supposed to be buying a Living World Green Eco cage in large size from someone who is selling it locally, but they listed it and then had to go out of town for a funeral and I didn't end up getting it from them yet. Hopefully it will work out. It's huge. If that doesn't work, I'll figure something else out.

Anyway, Beatrix was in a mood today. I think she caught sight/smell of her new sister and she is not happy. Their cages are in the same room, but nowhere near each other, and not within sightlines the way I have them arranged, but I suppose it's impossible to block all odors. I think she is jealous. Here is her being grumpy at me. It's taken through the side of the bin, so it's a little unclear. And I'm sorry it's sideways. It's not that way on my computer, and I don't know how to fix it.

Aw, what a sweet grump! I find that my hams would become antsy at the smell of another hamster at first, but soon learn to deal with having another hamster in the vicinity. Having mixes of males and females is usually the hardest to deal with, as males go crazy when the females go into heat. I think the Beatrix will love her new cage

Btw, the photos aren't showing up sideways for me. They look completely normal

Ha, all is forgiven, because the hams got broccoli tonight! Beatrix made it clear that she wanted me to keep holding it while she ate, so as to really focus on her munching.

Ah yes, they often can smell other hamsters in the house. When my brother and I both had males and they took it in turns for floor time, they would go into the corners and chatter their teeth where they could smell that the other had been scent marking. And, when I was looking after my friend's female while she was on holiday, they were very interested in the smell! Your two will get used to it, though. Especially with broccoli as a distraction!

Beatrix got a new cage today! She's temporarily in a Kevin 82 cage, but will eventually be in the larger Living World Green Eco cage. The Kevin 82 is bigger than her bin cage, most notably, it is taller, which means I can fit more of her Syrian-sized things in it, and deeper substrate, which she loves, as she's started burrowing all over. I don't love the bars, to be honest. But hopefully she won't have to be in it too long.

Well, to my surprise, the local seller I got the Living World cage from called and asked if I could get it today! I wish now that I'd waited a day to move cages, because now I don't know if it would be too disruptive to move Beatrix to another new cage so soon. I have to build the thing first, and I want to put something down to protect the wood base, so it's not getting built today, and maybe not even tomorrow, because I have a mountain of papers to grade, but I'm very eager for everyone to be settled in proper permanent cages.

I think Beatrix is mad at me. I also think she's in heat, so maybe I shouldn't take it personally! She does NOT like the Kevin 82 and is climbing the bars a lot. I have to say, I don't love it either. I just so much prefer the tank style cages or even bin cages. I took a chance because of the size, and the easy availability, but I'm disappointed. I'll keep it around in case I need an extra cage (with me, you never know!) but I'm a bit disappointed. It's a great cage, don't get me wrong, it's just not my preference. Hopefully this weekend I can get her moved into her Living World cage.
