Re: Maisie's thread!
Millie, congrats on welcoming your gorgeous Maisie to you happy home! I love the blending of the cream and white in her coat. It makes her all the more captivating. She has such large ears that makes her truly adorable.
I am so happy to hear that she is settling in quite nicely, and I certainly hope that today's official 1st day of the taming process went well for you both. I am definitely wishing you the very best of luck.
I look forward to reading more about Maisie's adventures and see more pics. Have fun with your sweet, furry beauty! Eros sends a high four to Maisie!

Re: Maisie's thread!
Maisie's crib!
This is how I've currently got Maisie's Alaska cage set up, any recommendations on how to improve it?
I'm trying to find a nice hammock that hangs down but other than that I'm not sure what else to add. The little heart dish has her sand in, I'm hoping that I will be able to potty train her once I figure out where she is currently going!
An update on the taming session.. it was a fail, she doesn't wake up until early hours of the morning when I am already fast asleep so I had to gently wake her. She was exploring her cage for around 10 minutes before sneaking back off into her coconut house..
Hopefully tonight will be better!
Also thank you for all the lovely comments everyone! Maisie says hi!

Re: Maisie's thread!
Maisie is adorable. She has beautiful colouring and I love her ears!
I'll leave your questions about taming, etc. to the more experienced hamster owners, although one thing: I would guess that waking her for taming sessions may not be helpful. Better to let her wake on her own. (Someone will correct me on that if I'm wrong because they know more about this topic.)

Re: Maisie's thread!
That looks absolutely wonderful! I really can't suggest much as to me, I think it looks amazing, but someone else may have some suggestions. You could always add a bendy bridge or two more if you really wanted to, or even a cork tunnel, but that's really up to you! A hammock or perhaps a Sputnik would be a good addition like you thought so that's always an option sorry to hear taming didn't go so well, don't lose hope though, I'm sure it'll go better next time. Good luck

Re: Maisie's thread!
Millie, is the ridged cardboard roll a cat scratching post? That's a great idea. I will get one for Zoey.

Re: Maisie's thread!
That would be a toy made specifically for hamsters(UK product, should be available in the US through Viovet though).
Corrugated cat scratching boards and such could probably be used safely for hamster toys, however I would make sure to only use ones with no dyed paper bits as these cannot be guaranteed safe since the dyes used would be completely unknown.

As already mentioned it is actually a hamster toy found here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Boredom-Bre.../dp/B008L1EFZQ its great! But using a cat scratching post sounds like an even greater idea!

Re: Maisie's thread!
Cotton, Thank you! I didn't think waking her would be the best idea but I literally never see her.. the only reason I know she's still in there is because I notice her food bowl empty in the morning
Thanks Drago I really appreciate it! I'll definitely get a hammock added and more tubes and things, hard to tell what Maisie likes as I never see her awake ahah! I might get her one of those burrow box things either (probably for when she's in her play pen
