Default grown up Hex

well she will be 8 weeks old soon, and is looking so cute. She is already bigger than her mum!

so here are some cute shots of Hex

bit blured but so cute, now somehow all clear shots of her are of her bottom see below :P

oh and see how every hamster bites Dave, it was only a nibble, I don't know why but he must taste nice

she is a she, the one that I am still unsure of is Stibbons, the banded one. I am almost tempted to say that Stibbons is both, the holes are close but the top bit sticks out rather.. just seems odd

but Hex is most definitely a girl, and a beautiful one, even if she is Umbrous

There is nothing wrong with being Umbrous? In fact I like Umbrous very much and love Golden Umbrous especially. Sable is my favourite Umbrous combination, followed by Mink. It is a great gene. Hex is a real beauty I hope you are keeping her? I would choose an Umbrous Golden over a plain Golden any day - not much of a Golden fan really. I used to breed "pure" Goldens when I was younger, but with so many colour genes now the only Goldens I produce are Umbrous. They are extremely popular.

yes she is too beautiful and such a character I can't part from her she stays. I feel guilty as Stibbons goes tomorrow. I was just having a last cuddle now. Well she will go as long as I know they do not use hamsters as snake food. I am still so worried about that. I would have kept Stibbons but now there is a new litter, well it seems for the best, it's just a shame no one showed interest, we had so much interest only a month or so back. I should never speak to most of them again for getting hamsters elsewhere

It is a shame you have had to let one of your babies go Hopefully Stibbons will find love quickly and a good forever home. It is a shame you couldn't keep him/her until you found a home yourself. I am always wary of pet stores, even if they look good you just don't know where your little one will end up, and in what... One of the great things about the internet is I can keep in touch with many of my babies and their owners via email and pictures. Keep going back everyday to keep an eye on her if you are worried is all I can suggest... Christmas is coming fast and I am sure Stibbons will be rehomed soon. I hope they continue your good work and play with Stibbons every day.

i cant do it i cant let her go, i just spent time crying to dave, and he agrees, we will keep her and try for at least another week, as she is the runt she is no where near as big as hex for the same age, so i doubt the pet shop would realise if we did end up taking stibbons there.

it didnst help she was so cuddly today she sat in my hand with her heat resting on my belly (yes i must diet) allowing me to just stroke her, for like 15 mins i even watched most of an episode of mork and mindy with stibbons like that. this is really odd stibbons is still rather popcornish and jumps and wobbles. it was so terrible it was like stibbons was begging to stay, i know i am being odd, but it was. i am doing up more posters, i am going to litter daves campus and unions etc with them, and the pet shop down the road (not the one we would give stibbons to) someone at work may want one of the new babies for her granddaughter, i might see if she would have an older 'tamer' one well thats how i would say it, something larger to hold to get used to a pet, i dont know.

any other ideas for advertising to get some homes for stibbons and ones ready for the next batch?

definitely a good idea to push the whole tame thing when discussing a hamster as a young child's pet - I rehome lots of young rescues to parents by showing them the difference. It really is worth it to stress and demonstrate if you can to prospective owners the temperament of a 4/5 week old baby and a young well socialised youngster. At 8 weeks Stibbons is ideal age for going to a new home and I know it is not to be encouraged buying animals as Christmas presents but many people do it and you just need to ensure they understand if ANYTHING happens and they no longer feel able to care for Stibbons adequately you will have him/her back no questions asked. I usually wait until 8 weeks and sometimes longer before rehoming many babies. I like to have them living in their own Ferplast here for a few days before rehoming. It is nicer than taking them from the running on cage to no cage mates at a strange house. If anything is likely to induce stress this is.

thing is my two have lived alone for a while. Hex was ready for her own cage at 25 ish days so they were separated, and because I was worried of what sex Stibbons is I felt it was safer to keep them apart, so since they left mother they have been all alone poor things. Which is why I think I am more attached to them. I felt so guilty because of this they have had more out-time than any of our other hamsters, never that long, but often, all throughout the evening, and in the morning at weekends. Hex is already better behaved than her mother (though they all still bite Dave, never drawn blood, but bite him, I think he still does not wash his hands after eating.)

I am trying some on-line Manchester classifieds too at the moment. and I will include a picture of Stibbons in the picture pack for the hairdresser.

May do up another pack for work, see if I can tempt any of them.

Oh I am sure you will get there, keep up the good work, and a picture really does make a difference.
