Spike's Escape
Me and my little Spike spent a wonderful Saturday together, and he somehow escaped from his cage. I was so upset because the one time he escaped before, when I called him, he came running out, but this time, he did not respond at all to my voice. Later that evening, I heard scratches under the cabinet in the kitchen. I could not get the board removed and tried for several hours. I could not find an entry point either, but suspected he got into the wall from behind the fridge. Finally, he poked his little head out and I was so excited to see him again that it scared him and he retreated back into the wall. So I sat down to where he poked his head out, and spoke softly to him, knowing he had to be starving. I lured him out with a banana peel! I was so happy that he was safe and with me again. Apparently, he was a starving, because when I put him back into his cage, he hoarded every piece of food that he could and filled his pouches up to the max...as seen here.

Re: Spike's Escape
Oooh naughty Spike! But I'm glad he is back safe and sound. I dont know who an escape is more traumatic for - the human or hamster haha. When my girl first escaped I was a nervous wreck. Fortunately she was only gone for 25 minutes and I knew where she was the whole time ( under the kitchen counters and under the oven). I just had to wait her out. She came back when her tummy rumbled as well haha

Re: Spike's Escape
Hamsters can be quite the escape artists can't they now? It's such a crushing feeling when you lose your hamster, but it's also the best feeling in the world when you find them. My hamster is quite the opposite in his escape tendencies. He tends to escape to get into his treats! There have been times where I have found that he's chewed through his mix's bag and was contently eating

Re: Spike's Escape
Glad you got the little Houdini back it can be rather stressful when they get out. Pip so far has only escaped once and I found her behind a dresser covered with dust and cobwebs.....

Re: Spike's Escape
So glad he's back where he belongs. A scary thing to happen but a happy ending.

Re: Spike's Escape
I am so happy to hear that your escape artist has come back to his loving mum. I know that must have been quite scary for you both. Spike seems like quite the adventurous, silly character. The pic with the absolutely stuffed cheek pouches are totally precious indeed. I sure am glad that all ended well for you both. Maybe Spike will think twice before trying that again. I will definitely keep my fingers crossed.
