LOL this really made me laugh.
He's really looking handsome and blending in nicely with the carpet in the tiny wheel shot Looks like he is enjoying exploring and reading Harry Potter too

Re: Duncan's thread
Aw! Love the photos
The first wheel I ever bought was one of those 4.5" silent spinners, no one ever used it of course but I kept it for ages for the same reason, they are ridiculously cute if totally useless

Re: Duncan's thread
We've got one as well, I think we bought it because we worried that the bigger one would be too big (lol). I kept it in case we ever had some tiny robo but I don't think I'll ever use it with having the silent runners now anyway

Re: Duncan's thread
Thats wheel looks likes it would fit in a dolls house haha. The shocking thing is that some people would actually believe that is ok for all hamsters. But I'm glad Duncan has a loving hammy dad like ylu who kbows better and looks after him well

Thank you! Duncan has always been a very sweet (and lazy) little ham. You'd be surprised how nervous he was when I first got him! He never wished to be touched and would dive under his bedding, but he eventually warmed up to me until he reached where he is now. He'd trust me to do anything I think, over time I'm sure your little ones will do the same

I really do love this wheel and using it for decorative purposes. I made a miniature ham cage once and used this in it (lol the stuff I do for fun). I am so glad the silent runner is around now, imagine having to deal with just silent spinners! Thank you Jennie F, I really do try my best to offer my hams the greatest life possible as I'm sure Khaleesi has with you
Figured I'd give an update on the cage...
I've been thinking about this project a bit more, and have been reading some studies which has now lead me to believe that even this square metre cage would be on the smaller side for a Syrian. I'm not sure how- or if it's even feasible, but I'm thinking I may want to make the new cage two square metres! Don't know if I've mentioned it or not yet, but this is going to be a modular cage so I can house one Syrian on top and Duncan on the bottom (as I plan on getting another Syrian in the summer). I'm going to see how this goes, but I might have an idea on how to expand it. Hope this all works out and I don't drive myself insane in the process!

Re: Duncan's thread
Melamine and acrylic cages could easily be taken apart(no sealant used on acrylic panels as it doesn't work with acrylic but would be necessary on corners and such to prevent leaks).
I'm not sure exactly how you could go about shapes and such as that is very much a personal decision since no single shape is perfect for everyone, but perhaps aside from that some sort of rack system? That is the best way to explain it,but I've seen DIY guinea pig cages done this way and it seems to work perfectly and can easily be done according to whatever dimensions you'd like!

Re: Duncan's thread
Sounds good Drago, good luck!
Do you have an actual plan of how to build it yet? There are some really good plans on the German forum for DIY cages, the L shape seems to be most popular for larger sizes.

Re: Duncan's thread
Thank you, I do have a plan (well sort of lol). I have the frame of the cage all built so I'm thinking I'll just build the same thing and connect it to the existing frame. I will be making the bottom section out of plexiglass mostly (so it can hold a good amount of bedding) and the remainder will be meshed with 1/4 in mesh/hardware cloth. The top section will be generally the same. I'm so excited for this to be finished, I hope to get it done by June
Here's a little pic of Duncan in a cup, he's an odd little guy for sure

Re: Duncan's thread
Just been catching up with Duncan's thread love the pics especially the last one of him in the plastic cup....
I like the idea of yours for the modular cages, it sounds like you will have Hamcester Towers when you get your next new ham in the summer..
