Default My latest "rescue" refuses to TALK to me

The latest little one to be dumped on me is around 2 years old and I thought I would ask for some advice on "bringing her round" as (at the moment) she really doesn't like me. Every time I put my hand in the cage, or even NEAR the cage, she just shouts at me.

Tonight she's been with us a week and she actually came over to sniff my hand as I left it in the cage after putting her food in, but the minute I tried to talk to her (I didn't move my hand) she flinched and dissappeared back into the safety of her bedding.

I feel really sorry for her and I know she's fairly old (in hamster terms) but I would just like her to be cared for before she gets even older. Do you think I should just leave her be or should I carry on slowly trying to coax her out of herself??

Any suggestions really welcome, thank you

She may have had some bad experiences in the past and not be happy with handling. I know you are experienced with taming Naomi and I thing this is just a case of gaining her confidence. It may take time and she may be a little cage aggresive too. Can you get her out in a tub or tube and try taking her away from the cage to handle? Instead of putting your hands in can you take the lid off and gently stroke then lift and lay down till she is happy with that then progress from there.
I'm sure you will get there given a little more time

they are often happier to interact when out of their cage so well worth trying this

have you tried the ball taming method?

i know you're experienced with taming, but perhaps you might not have heard of this one before? I used it to tame very skittish rescues
