what toys would you recommend
I'm planning on getting a Syrian hamster after my last 3 Dwarf hamsters and i have got rid of a lot of my wooden toys and things that are too small. Are there any good toys for Syrian hamsters that you would recommend? Even DIY?

Re: what toys would you recommend
Okay, personally my main list for toys for Syrians are bendy bridges. My Syrian goes "gaga" for these. I also add tunnels that are a little bit bigger. (Rosewood's Cheese~n~Play, Niteangel's Wooden Tunnel, and Playtime Tunnel from Petsmart*medium size, don't forget to remove the fluff from the inside*) I also have some cork rounds that were sanitized before using.
Yeah, my Syrian loves tunnels and bendy bridges.
You can also probably use driftwood(although never tried) if you clean it really well. Chews(wooden or sisal) are great too.
Hope this helps you out.

I tend to go for the rat size, the sputniks and tube/tunnels are spacious. I also recommend the bendy bridges. A proper sized wheel too.

My roommate's Syrian loves her Sputnik and tunnels I've seen reptile logs and branches used as climbing toys for Syrians a lot too.

There's a really good thread here on about people's top five buys Top 5 buys?
And a good thread on toys from recycled items Hamster toys and accessories from recycled household items thread
And yes - I agree that you should tend towards rat sized things - many things marketed for hammies are only actually suitable for dwarves.

Re: what toys would you recommend
The cyber range from superpet is good, as a Syrian can fit in the toys easily. Dig boxes are good, I have an old tub filled with sand and she adores it. They also like sitting on things rather than in things like dwarves, so the cube and bendy bridge mentioned would be good for that. I also gave mine a hammock which she enjoys. Basically anything big or anything raised with a flat enough top for them to sit on.
