Re: Girl or boy?
My family has had both males and females over the years. At this very moment, I have a male, but I love both. Each has its pros and cons. I'll give you a list of a few facts about each. Although, keep in mind that each hamster is in itself a different hammie. They each have their own personality. Who knows? You might get one that doesn't want to go with the "Status Quo". Hope this helps.
~Male~
Pros
More likely to snuggle
Tends to be less smelly(not to me *mine tends to have a musky stink*)
Can't be pregnant
Usually has less health issues(infections, etc.)
Cons
Not as playful
Or mischievous
More shy
Females
Pros
Extremely playful
Normally spunky/mischievous
Normally more vocal on needs or wants
Cons
Tend to be smelly when in heat(meh)
Pregnant? worries
May have more health problems(infections and reproductive issues)
Again hope this helps you choose. Personally, I just let the hamster choose me. Can't wait to meet your new hammie! They will be extremely lucky to have you as an owner.

Re: Girl or boy?
I have had both and love them all equally. I do believe that each individual hamster has its own individual personality and traits so it doesn't necessarily mean that if you choose a certain gender they will act a specific way that is typical of its gender. I honestly believe that you will know which one is the perfect fit for you when you see him/her and they truly melt your heart. Hamsters, like all other creatures, will speak to your heart and pull on your heartstrings when it is the right choice. Just follow your heart and you can never go wrong. Good luck with choosing your new family member. Please send pics and keep us updated whenever you have a chance and enjoy your furry ball of love.
