Laurie Comes Home!
Hi all! I brought home Laurie yesterday, he is a beautiful long haired ivory syrian from a great breeder, who has been holding the lil guy for me for over 2 weeks! [cheers Wendy!] He is an absolute sweetheart and is happily taking sunflower seeds from my hands which is really sweet [the breeder advised starting interacting after he had made himself at home for various reasons, I know most hams need a settling in process]. When I picked him up from the breeder she popped him in my hands and the first thing he did was empty his pouches onto me and have a good wash. He absolutely loves his wheel and has been having fun digging and grooming in the sand bath. I will post pictures as soon as I have them, but if anyone has taming tips etc that would be fabulous, I want to take it at his pace and make sure he's really comfortable so we can build a lil bond <3

Re: Laurie Comes Home!
That's wonderful! I can't wait to see photos of Laurie.
I think your breeder is wise - many breeder raised pups don't need that time to settle. It all depends on the pup, and if they're already so used to handling, no sense waiting if they're ready for a cuddle.
Just remember the key to a hammies' heart is food! I'd offer little Laurie lots of treats and go slowly, at his pace, just as you said. Have him associate you with treats.

Re: Laurie Comes Home!
He sounds lovely. My fluffy cream hamster Arun has always been really friendly. He came from a small local pet shop. He is so laid back. Hope Laurie continues to delight you.
Look forward to piccies of his Ivory cuteness.

Re: Laurie Comes Home!
You'll build a bond day by day, it will happen as you spend time with your new fluff

Re: Laurie Comes Home!
Laurie is the sweetest most gentle creature I think I have ever met. He is happily letting me stroke him and scoop him up, and is really starting to show his character! We sat in the bath tub yesterday after having a lil explore and being given some seeds he decided to potter off and nibble on the plug, I guided him away with his hands which he tentatively climbed onto. He then thought that was a great game and kept running back to the plug for a nibble so that I would scoop him up again and put him on my lap. This little cycle continued for a good while after which he snuggled under the crook of my knee and promptly fell asleep. I managed to get some photos, they aren't the best quality and he looks a little more yellowy than he is due to the lighting but he is the cutest little floof.

Re: Laurie Comes Home!
Aww Laurie really is a very cute ball of fluff Love the first & last photo especially.
Might be an idea to put a towel in the bottom of the bath next time!
