Introducing Adele
So we said goodbye to our little Harvey 11 days ago. Amy was very upset for a few days but by the start of this week was eager to welcome a new hamster.
I spent a few days preparing the cage, disinfecting everything and replacing a lot of toys and the house, that I didn't feel I could disinfect well enough.
Last night we popped into Pets at Home, and there a couple of really lovely hamsters, so I agreed we could go back today to buy one. We'd checked the adoption cages first, but there were no hamsters. So today we needed to buy a couple more bits for the cage that P@H didn't have, so we went to the local Pets Corner instead. Now this Pets Corner doesn't have animals in store, but whilst we were chatting, the lady serving us explained they did have small furries at another store just 2 miles away that I hadn't even known existed!
So off we went. It's a totally different set up to P@H, we had to go into a little area to see the hamsters, as soon as the staff member started talking, the hamsters all wok up and came up to the glass to see us. She explained they had one hamster who was really lovely but had been in the store for a while. She took this female Syrian out of her tank for us to take a look - she was lovely, the same golden colouring as Harvey but without the white band.
Poor little girl was scared, her ears were back but as Amy crept down to the bowl she was in, she came over to have a sniff. That was that, no chance we were leaving without her!
They did have some other hamsters, but Amy felt that as this hamster had been in the store for a couple of months already, she deserved to come home with us where she would have a mansion to play in (referring to the Barney cage, not our own home!).
Amy has decided to call her new friend Adele. Adele has explored every last corner of her cage, including climbing up the bars to the top and deciding the best way to get past the wheel is to squeeze in the tiny gap behind it.
I'll add pictures in the next couple of days once she's settled in.
