Re: Kilian, the New Ham on the Block
Day Four of Adopting Kilian
It's the fourth day since I met the little boy, and I am falling even farther in love!
Ladyntramp002 and I are continuing the training process, and he seems like he is doing quite well. He has been slightly more skittish since last night, but he still runs to investigate and tries to climb out. We may try to do the "Tissue Trick" with him, as that may get him more used to our scent even when we are not in the same room as him.
Kilian's wheel is squeaking soooo loudly that we have to move him in a different room from Kornelia during the night, as she seems greatly bothered by the "disturbance". Thankfully, his Wodent Wheel should be arriving any day through the mail! I'm sure all of our ears will be greatly relieved when it does.
He seems to continue transitioning well to the gradual change in his food mixture, which is great! I'm sure it tastes much better to him, as well as healthier. We're hoping that we can give him some fresh veggies (lettuce) soon, but I'm not quite sure when that would be okay for his tummy?!

Re: Kilian, the New Ham on the Block
Just as a quick question:
Does anyone know what color Kilian would be classified? I have no idea about anything dealing with hamster genetics or coloring, so I always get extremely confused.

Re: Kilian, the New Ham on the Block
Day Five of Adopting Kilian
It's the fifth day of adopting our darling little "Kili". He is now skittish and runs at any noise back into his nest due to the fact that the novelty of being somewhere new has worn off. Both my sister(climber00 and I are still taking the taming process slowly and not pushing him. Last night we slept with the tissues for the "tissue trick".
His Wodent Wheel has still not come in the mail, yet. Hopefully it will arrive before Christmas.

Re: Kilian, the New Ham on the Block
Today is his one monthaversary. (month anniversary)
He is still skittish and won't let me pick him up. We were going strong but had a slight setback due to having family over during the holidays. (very noisy*lol*)
We are just taking it slow and letting him set the pace in what he is comfortable with.
Hope you enjoy this update, on our Mr. Kiliwonkers.

Re: Kilian, the New Ham on the Block
Today, my Mr. Kiliwonkers let me pick him up. I decided today was going to be the day. I offered him a treat and had him walk into a container. Gently raising the container, up and out of his cage, I had the container go into an upright position with Kilian inside. He popped his head over the top, as if to say, "Hey, what's going on?" He let me pet him quite a bit, and then I gently placed my hand around his body.
Presto! I finally picked him up. I did this a couple of times and gave him a treat. After a few minutes of repeating this taming exercise, I put him back in his bin cage.
He still won't let me hold his bottom or pick him up while he is walking around his cage. However, he is now letting me pick him up when he is standing on his hind legs!
Hooray!!!!!
Keeping my fingers crossed that we can move forward without any glitches.

Re: Kilian, the New Ham on the Block
That good news. Once he is confident with being picked up this way. He could become ok with being picked up in other ways.
