Re: Sir Henry Wiltonshire - Metallica's Secret Resident
Henry says Hello to everyone and waves a paw a Pip.
He's settled nicely and has been enjoying his playtimes. I'm not usually one for hamster balls but he does seem quite fond of his so he'll go in there for a five minute run before going into one of the playboxes. Unfortunately most of my playtime toys are Chinesey sized so I've been taking some toys out of his cage and hiding small healthy treats amongst them.
He's also getting more used to being brushed and he stands on a grid similar to those used at shows. Unfortunately his previous owners gave his fur a bit of a trim and it's not that even so I'm going to have to tidy that up a bit before Othery. I've still not decided whether I'm going to put him in the main show or will just stick to pets. I don't have a Syrian show pen that I can try him in to know if he'd cope and the dwarf ones are smaller so I might have to see how he copes with one of the smaller travel boxes.
Here's a photo of him on the grid:

Re: Sir Henry Wiltonshire - Metallica's Secret Resident
Henry doesn't seem to be all that good at playing. He enjoyed the food parcel that I set up for him the other day but he seems to spend most of his time in his playbox just mooching around.
I admit that he doesn't have a great deal of toys as everything I have is Chinesey friendly but I don't want to spend a great deal as I hope that he'll find a more permanant home soon. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate a few low cost ideas that a Syrian will enjoy.

Re: Sir Henry Wiltonshire - Metallica's Secret Resident
When I let my Syrians out to play I have various torn up cereal/other food boxes that they seem to absolutely adore. I'll tear holes in them and line them up in various ways to make a maze or just have single ones as hides. They seem to really love hiding in the cereal boxes!

Mine have boxes, sand pits, tunnels and wheels in their play boxes.

Re: Sir Henry Wiltonshire - Metallica's Secret Resident
Henry went off to a new home on Saturday.
A friend of my sister's was looking for a friendly Syrian Hamster that was happy to be held and had fallen in love with Henry's photos so asked me if I was willing to rehome him.
He was picked up on Saturday evening and in a way I was quite sad to see him go but I'm sure he'll be happy in his new home.
Here's one of the last photos I took of him:

Re: Sir Henry Wiltonshire - Metallica's Secret Resident
Good to hear he has a new home, I can imagine how it must have been sad to see him go but I guess you have your hands full with Chineseys right now & must be relieved too knowing he's going to be loved & well cared for.

Re: Sir Henry Wiltonshire - Metallica's Secret Resident
Henry is coming back to join the family - although not with me and the Chineseys.
Unfortunately his new owners were allergic to him so they couldn't keep him so as of tomorrow my sister and her boyfriend will be keeping him as they'd fallen in love with him.

Aww that's a shame although I'm sure he'll have a lovely home with your sister and her boyfriend. It would be hard not to fall in love with that sweet fluffy face

It is a shame things didn't work out with the new owners but it's nice he's staying in the family now I'm sure he'll be very happy with your sister.
What does Sooty think I wonder
