Re: Lawrence's Thread
A bit miffed that I moved his tube to reclaim the stolen milky bone!

Re: Lawrence's Thread
OOh I love that last photo particularly He is a cheeky monkey. LOL at the row of clothes pegs - it looks good actually - like some kind of modernist Hamster interior design. I really like the Alaska set up and the shelf. How does the purple tube stay up there? Is it tied on at the back or something? Glad Lawrence likes the wheel. He looks like a real bundle of fun and cheekiness and he looks rather confident too!
If he's been in the cage for a month then the bar chewing probably isn't due to cage change stress - although if you've been moving things around a bit it might be. Usually best not to move anything for the first couple of weeks while they settle in and find their way around. But if it was that, it will probably settle again soon. Now you've got a set up that works for you and him he'll get into habits and have little routes and routines in there and probably settle down (except when he's trying to get out lol).
Really like the platform idea - it works very well in that cage and maximises the space.

Re: Lawrence's Thread
Serendipity- the tube is one of those bendy expandable ones. It's pretty sturdy and holds it's shape under Lawrence's 200g physique(L had a growth spurt recently and I still can't believe he weighs 200g instead of the 120 he was when he moved in with us). It's kind of leaning against the corner of the cage/platform and doesn't seem to move about unless he is doing substrate renovations underneath it. Other than the wheel it has been the most successful item I have bought for him. He uses it as a hide/ temporary food storage area when he is too busy running about to put treats in his bed immediately.

Re: Lawrence's Thread
200g! He's getting to be a big hamster lol. Charlie is 225g and he's huge. Yes those tubes are good. I haven't tried one inside a cage so good to here they stay up with their bends in place . I had one for out of cage but Charlie didn't like walking in it lol - the crinkly bits. He looks like he loves that tube by his face

Re: Lawrence's Thread
I have been trying to find a good hideout to go under the shelf in the cage. I tried a number of things which Lawrence either ignored or else decided to use as a toilet!
This led to a trip to Pets at Home which I have been trying to avoid recently as its very dangerous! I bought a medium bendy bridge and made a hideout that points into the cage so he will hopefully feel its nice and private in there. Fingers crossed he likes it. So far he has had a little nibble of the wood and climbed on it so it seems promising.
I also picked up some more whimzees and a pack of those mini popping corn on the cobs. I cut about an inch off one of them and put it in the microwave. Lawrence had lots of fun pulling the corn from the cob and pouching it but the popped corn must of been extra tasty because he ate that right there and then!
I also got a couple of walnuts in Tesco this week. They have started selling loose mixed nuts in their shells so I fished out some walnuts. I cracked one open a little and gave it to Lawrence. Sadly he grabbed it and carried it into his tube before I could get a picture...
It isn't the best picture but you can see he is getting stuck in. He was a very happy boy but I don't think he has fully mastered the walnut shell yet. I had a look this morning and it seems he has brought it into his bed so he can work on it properly.
This seems to be a popular chew/treat on here but my other half was worried it was too much for our little man. Should I take it away and give it back as a treat?
Lawrence says 'Hi' to all his hamster friends!!

Re: Lawrence's Thread
Aww I can see the resemblance in the little photo of Belle alright!
I was inspired to get some walnuts after reading about how much Sweep loves them! Lawrence is very thankful to you and Sweep for bringing them to my attention!
