Introducing Jam
After enquiring about several Syrians from various rescues, I fell in love with Jam.
She was crammed into a tiny cage in the adoption for pets section of the Pets at home store near where I work. She's 5 months old and is a large girl which is what I liked about her.
She's very inquisitive and loves exploring, she's happy to be stroked and hand fed but not too keen on being picked up yet. she also likes dipping everything in her water bowl, ripping cardboard to shreds and easily climbs out of the hamster playpen I brought for her.
She seems to like her Alexander cage too, although she sticks to one area mostly.

Re: Introducing Jam
Hello Jam
She's gorgeous, congrats!
If she's only just come from a tiny tank at P@H she may just be a little nervous of the space in her cage, I'm sure she'll adjust soon enough but maybe experiment with your set up a little to see if you can make her feel a bit more secure, not too much open space & plenty of nice things to explore.
She certainly seems to be enjoying play time there

Re: Introducing Jam
I'm a bit less in love with her today as she kept OH and I awake for 2 hours in the middle of the night biting the cage bars!
We've brought her a wheel, some more toys and will scatter feed her before bed and ensure she has play time out of the cage at least once a day to try to combat this.
Is there anything else we can try?

Re: Introducing Jam
Have you got a photo of her cage set up? It might help with suggestions to stop the bar chewing.
The wheel & scatter feeding or putting food in little treat parcels she really has to work at should help, if she chews in one particular spot then threading card through the bars might work, whimzees or antos dog chews are a good distraction too.
Also ignore her when she does it as she'll just do it more if she get rewarded with attention!

Re: Introducing Jam
Keep some food in the bowl though if she's not used to being scatter fed!
You could try weaving so easy thick cardboard through the bars where she chews and see if that helps?
