Re: Marty McVitie's Thread
Wow! You clearly have your hands full! She sounds like an interesting little character! I laughed about her pulling out the box of sand! Such a little sweetheart!

Re: Marty McVitie's Thread
Well, last night I went to bed crying, as I was convinced that I had lost my little girl already! My sister had been popping in to check on her during the day, and hadn't seen her at all, but when I got home from work and saw her Fitch mountain, I guessed she must have had a busy day - but I didn't see her at all, all evening - and I didn't even hear anything! I was so used to hearing the odd scuffle from Smokey, even if she wasn't up - but by the time I went to bed at 10pm, no sight or sound of Marty. I read for a bit and then turned out the light, but still no sound - couldn't sleep, so tried reading again - she finally got up at 11:30 and I was so relieved!
We had a little chat as she came up onto her back shelf to look at me, but then she flea-jumped all across her cage and into her wheel, and that was it, conversation over - lots of running to do!
I had put 2 sunflower seeds on her shelf, and made a cardboard tube ball with a Science Selective biscuit in, but they were untouched when I got up in the morning - she must have been too busy running - her food bowl was untouched too.
She got up pretty much when I got up at 5:30 and we had a chat, then it was back in the wheel! She stopped to take a tiny bit of carrot from me, then later she also took a peanut and another Science Selective biscuit.
She was still playing in her wheel when I left for work at 7am - and my sister e-mailed me at 10:30 to tell me she was still awake and playing! She had been chewing the apple, willow and hazel sticks I had bought her, pouched all her food (except for the things that look like cornflakes!) and filled her plastic toilet box with Fitch and tissue - and she apparently kept playing till nearly 12pm before collapsing in a heap on her toilet - and she is still there now!
She keeps waking up a bit and turning round and having a scratch etc, and I had to take the lid off the cage and move a bendy bridge because she had knocked it out of place and I was worried it would fall on her, but she was not at all bothered. Mum has given her a couple of bits of hamster mix through the bars today and she took them happily.
I got a couple of photos -

She has her hamster mix in her red bowl, and I am going to use the blue one for her fresh food - I have put a tiny bit of cheese in this evening as it sounds like she has earned it.

Re: Marty McVitie's Thread
Aw look at her asleep in her sand bath It's all new - it sounds like she wants to do everything all of the time lol. She'll soon settle into a routine maybe and be ready for more interaction then I expect.

Re: Marty McVitie's Thread
I guess it must be pretty exciting to have a lot of space and things to do when you have been in a pet shop tank! She does seem to listen when we talk to her and my Mum has been saying her name to her a lot today and thinks she is learning it already - but once she gets on her wheel, it's like nothing else in the world exists!
I really hope she will be playing during the day tomorrow because I don't work on Wednesdays so it would be great if I could get some more pictures.

Re: Marty McVitie's Thread
I'm really surprised at her sleeping out in the open like that! I guess she must feel safe and secure, which is lovely!
She has been waking up every so often and having a little stretch, and at one point she had a little walk around and found her cheese - she was so dainty as she ate it! I also put a pile of toilet paper at the front of the cage, she pouched a piece but I don't know if she has added it to her 'camp bed'. But you can see it's all a bit much effort so she toddles back up her corner and dozes off again.
I have just pulled my curtains to and pulled my door most of the way closed, and am not going to go in my room for quite a while now - I am usually in and out all evening but I think I will leave it nice and quiet so she can have a good rest.
