Shy syrian hamster

Hi i got black short haired syrian hamster
I named her Vivian calling Vivi
she's about 8 months old
I love my vivian hammy girl
it's been 3 days she came home with me
Pet store employee pick her up
She was scream and jump off hands
but she don't bite at all
I think she never got handle
by peoples befor
pet stores never got contect by humans
I think my past hamsters out of 3 out of 6 hamsters
turn out to be shy
I worked with some shy hamsters in past
but this poor girl scream at me
So I'm taking my time with her very slow
as possible
She's accept treats right now
not from my hands just giving to her
by fingers
I read about hamster scream
when they're scared or pain
Is any tips taming shy hamster??

Firstly,if you haven't given her time to settle in that will cause a lot of problems.Just give her a week or two to settle in,since she is a pet store hamster and not a breeder hamster.

Stick to slow taming,but only after she's settled in properly.Try and make the cage setup work really good for her shy nature,for example lots of hiding places and very few open spaces as well as deep substrate to hide in.

3 days isn't really very long at all for a new ham, if she's been in the pet shop for a while & not been used to being handled then it may take a little more time & patience but just go slow with her & she should be fine.
They will sometimes scream if they are very scared the best thing is not to react to it, just keep talking to her to reassure her & if you've put your hand into her cage or close to her just leave it there for a short while but don't make any sudden movements that may startle her.
If she's already taking treats from you then she can't be that scared! I'd call that progress. She looks quite brave (& beautiful!) in the photos
With a shy or scared ham I do generally just stick to doing the tissue trick & talking to them for a few days while they settle before trying to move on.
I would disagree about too many hideouts though, if you make it too easy for them to hide away in lots of different places then it can make taming much harder in the long run.
It does look as though you could maybe give her some more substrate in her tank though, enough to have a nice dig around in.
As long as she has a nice house to sleep in where she'll feel secure that's fine.
Scatter feeding can help too as it encourages them to be out & about in the cage more & if you are around the cage it helps them to get more used to doing their own thing with you close by knowing they won' be disturbed or startled.

Since your hamster is still adapting to her new surroundings, give her chance to settle in for a few more days! Also, if she is quite timid in her cage, ensure that large, open areas are filled up with fun toys!
