Peekabo! He's so tiny and cute. The one in the terry towel, almost makes me want a Syrian.

Hey again guys. I'm sorry if I should post this in a different thread but it's about Gus, so I figured that it was ok? Anyway, I noticed this morning that Gus' been pooping in his food bowl. I've been giving him food every two days because he has a large hoard in his nest. I've also started to give him Harry Hamster mixed in with his Pets at Home hamster muesli in the hopes that I can introduce a bit more as time goes on (every third feed I increase the amount) until eventually, no more hamster muesli! However, he's a bit fussy and the first night after putting his food out he will not touch the Harry Hamster. So I don't fill his bowl up and eventually (during the second day) he will venture over and eat/hoard it. I know he's got enough food because he never stops eating! Should I be refilling his bowl everyday though? Is he anxious that I'm not going to feed him again? Thank you

Hamsters will often put poop in the food bowl. They also can eat poop and get extra nutrition out of it.

You will learn how much he actually is eating and how much he hoards. Then you may want to adjust how much you feed him. Check his hoard when he isn't in the cage or while he is on his wheel. If his hoard is getting extra large it may goes stale, especially if he pees on it.

Pooping in the bowl will make it easier to throw the poop away. There is always a plus side to things.

I've seen him eat his poop - it was the same day that I watched ErinsAnimals' video on it so I was prepared, haha. Thank you, I'll check later on tonight when he's awake I read somewhere that it means they think they're not going to be fed again so I just wanted to make sure. I'm such a softie haha

I think I read that too. If that is the case he may realise in time he will be getting regular food and stop.

Is he still coming out early enough for you to see him before you go to bed?

Fingers crossed and yes He's usually up from around 9-9.30 now which means I get to spend a good half an hour to an hour with him at night

That's good. He may even manage to come out earlier in time. Which means extra playtime and cuddles.

Most of my previous hamsters were awake from 8pm and 1 was awake at 5.30pm and stayed awake most of the evening. He would be wake up, go to his toilet, have food and water and be waiting on top of his house by 6pm to come out.
