Introducing Gus :)

He seems very happy He's still a little nervous but gaining confidence everyday - this morning he took a treat from the palm of my hand and let me stroke him gently while he munched away. Then he gave me those eyes again. I had to look away or I would've given in and given him another. He knows how to play me, that's for sure

Good morning guys! I thought that I'd give you all a update on Gus. Gus is doing well, he seems healthy, is eating, drinking etc. and is finally using the toilet tissue I put into his cage to make a nest (he was just burying himself into the substrate before) Taming is going well. He will take a treat from me, let me stroke him and is getting used to being picked up. Gus will not take a treat from the palm of my hand unless it's on the edge and he doesn't have to climb onto it to get it. He will not walk on the palm but will happily walk across the front of my hand - strange boy

I think that last night was a breaking point for us; I fell in love with him. Don't get me wrong, I loved my little fluff ball before but I feel like we've finally got trust in each other and have a bond between us I've been using an exercise ball I have to lift him/put him back into his cage. He walks straight into it now, no hesitation. I've been using a large bin for taming and he seems to have taken to it better then the bathtub. So last night I went through the usual, giving treats etc. and then I lifted him up. At the time I had my dressing gown on and for a good twenty minutes he ran up and down my arms/up on to my shoulders. He managed to climb down my back and find the crook in my arm where he sat for ten minutes, snuggled into my dressing gown, his little head poking out. I would've tried to get a picture but my phone was on the other side of the room and I didn't want to end our magical cuddling moment. Gus has well and truly taken my heart, I love how he runs up to the bars whenever I come into the room now as if to say 'let me out. Pleaseeee' (if he's awake of course, he loves his sleep!)

That sounds great! He has bonded quickly with you. They do like the crook of an arm - glad he sat for a stroke/cuddle. I think even the tamest of hamsters can avoid 'the hand' sometimes Charlie knows that a hand with food on it is a trick!
