I've adopted a rescue hamster!
Good afternoon/morning/evening guys!
As some of you know I recently lost my princess Suzi, she was my first Syrian hamster and I totally fell in love with her! So anyway I wasn't sure when or if I'd get another. But reading the stories on here about those adopting rescue hamsters I've gone and done it myself!
She's a female Syrian, light brown in colour. Her history is fairly limited, don't know her age but she looks fairly young.
No pics yet I'll put some on later if she's ready. She's currently settling into Suzi's first cage and has already made her bed in the little house and dragged tonnes of tissue paper in there with her. She is unnamed as yet. She was known as bonnie in p@h.
She's already took a treat from my hand and let me handle her. Could be an easy ride

Welcome to your new hamster. Adopting is so rewarding. I quite like the name Bonnie.

Re: I've adopted a rescue hamster!
It does feel so right to help those unfortunate enough to be labeled at a pet store. Before I got Kebes 2 I rescued Kebes the first who was a Black Band Syrian. There are a few down sides to doing this type rescue and Kebes was one of those down sides. Kebes 1 only got 14 days of life here before the fact of his extreme aggression was found through his death. Kebes 1 had a huge tumor growing in his brain. It was very painful and any kind of touch to him would be so painful he couldn't help but bite or scream a warning. He was in so much pain he wouldn't even run in a Wheel, nor place his head into any hole which may touch his head. Before he passed though we learned to love each other and I found if I offered him a wide open bowl he could be handled but only on his terms. I could only let him hand walk in wide open hands, but he did have 14 days of nothing but love and good food to eat, and a big bin cage.
Kebes 1 is the exception though as most biters are fear biters and once they learn and understand you will work on their levels most turn out to be wonderful pets in time and live nice happy long lives.

Re: I've adopted a rescue hamster!
Thanks you lot. What a lovely story nancy's hamsters. It's wonderful to hear this kind of stuff!
The new ham has NOT been asleep yet! I picked her up at around 1400 UK time, it's now 1845 and shes on a off her wheel non stop! All this plus grooming. I think shes just excited bless her.

Re: I've adopted a rescue hamster!
Here is a few pics i managed! Not the best quality i'm afraid!
I know it's difficult but if any of you experts could tell me roughly how old you think she might be? She's a proper live wire.
