Elmo's wheel upgrade!!! Excited

So me an my boyfriend went to buy Elmo a new wheel for his cage. I picked up the 12in saucer one and my boyfriend picked out the 11in wheel like Elmo's old one but one on more an it's better. So he let me pick mine an we got it an Elmo didn't really like it. It kept sticking an I didn't feel safe with in it his cage right now it tilted a little. So I took it out.

So after I took the saucer out an put the old one back. Elmo through a fit an I'm not lying I promise you all while the saucer was in the cage Elmo packed his cheeks an tried to get out the front open part of the cage I had it open. I was standing right there.

I told my boyfriend he wanted to run away because he didn't like his wheel lol!!!!

So we went back an got the other one. He seems to love it a lot better.

I hate to be the one to say it but unfortunately that wheel is not suitable. It seems to be the right size which is good but his wheel needs to have a soild surface or he is going to seriously injure his feet. Do an internet search on Bumblefoot and you'll see what I mean. Any wheel that that is a 'mesh' type or one with open bars cannot be used for hamsters. I think it was mentioned before but I know you've been trying to take in a lot of information in a short amount of time. Hopefully you still have your receipt and you can take it back. Sorry

I for got to add this ain't the permanent wheel they didn't have the wheels that people have shown me so Elmo's nose would stop getting hurt I changed it right away. I have 30 days to take it back an they should have to one I want in before my times up. An they wheel is bolted to the cage so it won't move or fall. Thank you. It's just an emergency cage because of his nose.

That's good then! Sorry to hear Elmos has hurt his nose though, hopefully it's not too serious. If you still have the flying saucer wheel (not sure from your post if you took that one back) then I would rather just put that in and take the other wheel out even if he doesn't like it. Better that he has a wheel he doesn't really like for a short while than a wheel that is going to hurt his little feet. It's surprising how they like to throw little temper tantrums though isn't it?

That was my first time seeing a hamster do that out was funny an cute I Told my boyfriend we have a hamster emergency going on he like a kid because he don't like he he's going to show it lol

Do you think he could grow to like the other one maybe??

I was thinking the same thing - sorry when you're so excited about the new wheel. Hamsters should never have mesh or rung wheels - I don't know why they are still allowed to sell the XXXing things! You could get him one of the new 12" silent runner wheels - they're safe - and silent! And he'd love it I'm sure. Either that or a Wodent wheel 27cm or a Trixie wheel 28cm would be good too! yes I'd take it out and put the flying saucer back until you've got another wheel. Hide lots of food in his cage and give him an extra special treat to make up for it. Seriously they can get badly injured on those wheels.

He could grow to like the saucer wheel after he gets the hang of using it but some hamsters just don't like them. There is still some debate about which wheels are better, saucers or the traditional upright wheels. I think the majority of people still prefer the upright wheels because it allows for a more natural movement but then there are those who say their hamsters prefer the saucer wheels. I have both but I keep my saucer for playtime, if I put the saucer wheel in his cage he'll completely ignore it in favor of his traditional upright wheel.

My goal is the up right plastic one that can bolt to the cage but they didn't have any in the store when I went so have to go back

Have you considered ordering online? It might be easier to find what you want and potentially cheaper too.
