Re: Hugo's Thread!
Update on Hugo:
He has a vet appointment tomorrow at 09.15. I hope its nothing serious. He seems like such a sweetheart already, despite his rough start in life!
I will update you all after the vet visit.

Re: Hugo's Thread!
Thankyou all
Well the vet appointment went well. The vet said its not wet tail and thinks it might be just because he's not used to his new surroundings, cage, food and all the extra space he has.
He has been given some probotics to put into his water to help settle his guts, but so far she doesn't think its anything too serious. However, if he gets worse, she said she'll put him on antibiotics for me.
Poor Hugo is very scared at the minute though. I said to her that so far Hugo has been doing very well at being picked up and handled, and hadn't tried to bite or fly out of my hands. However despite this she used a towel and terrified him. Because she used a towel to pick him up, she found it difficult to actually pick him up because you can't feel anything well enough in towels to handle them easily! She said to me when she was trying to get him 'well he's on his back at the minute so i am having a hard time catching him' ITS ONLY BECAUSE HE'S SCARED OF THE TOWEL YOU STUPID WOMAN. I think its a miracle he didn't bite her.
When I got him back home I thought he'd be super jumpy. But no, he's quite the opposite. Very slow moving again, just like when I bought him home. She's clearly scared him. He's sat in his bed now just staring at me... I don't know if he's just terrified of the previous ordeal, or if he's planning to freak out and scare me next time I handle him!

Re: Hugo's Thread!
Shame the vet trip had to be so stressful for him but glad to hear it's good news, hope he settles down & gets over it soon.

I'm leaving him alone for now, might see how he is with handling in the evening but it depends if he's moving slow and cautiously like he was when he came back from the vets and when I first bought him home.
He's sleeping at the moment :')

Re: Hugo's Thread!
We have had good results from the probiotics so far! His bottom is nice and clean and so far, I have yet to have seen any soft droppings! Very happy that its cleared up so quickly!
I have been looking into getting Hugo an Alaska cage just like Flump's. When I do order the cage, I will also be ordering two big wheels and two food dish stands for them both. I am very excited to get him in his permanent cage and it will hopefully be in the next few weeks!
Hugo seems to be getting more and more used to me now. He is very happy with me stroking him and picking him up/putting him down again. I am now working on him being in my hands for longer periods. This is the parts I hate most as three of my previous hamsters used to fly out my hands because they got freaked out. It made me very nervous around hamsters as the last thing i wanted to happen was them to get injured. Hugo however is doing very well so far. I put him in a cardboard box for handing sessions and when I do handle him, I keep him very low to the ground so if he did freak out, it wouldn't be a huge drop to the ground!
This is how I found him today!

Good to hear he's doing well now.
He certainly seems to be enjoying his food there!

Yep! He loves his food so it seems, but he will only take food from me sometimes! The amount of times i've tried, he's only taken food from me about 8 times ahaha
